Burglary suspect arrested following foot chase

October 28, 2010

An Oktibbeha County man is behind bars on a burglary charge after he led sheriff’s deputies on a foot chase through a wooded area as they attempted to arrest him Thursday morning.
Lannie Lee Stallings, 42, of 2554 Harris Road, remains in the Oktibbeha County Jail on the burglary charge following his arrest Thursday.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to 2546 Harris Road shortly before 8:30 a.m. Thursday to respond to a burglary report, said Chief Deputy George Carrithers late Thursday afternoon.
Deputies quickly developed Stallings as suspect. A jewelry box was discovered to have been taken from the home, Carrithers said.
After taking the initial report, deputies began searching for Stallings, only to be called back to the home where the burglary occurred for a reported domestic disturbance less than an hour later.
The disturbance also involved Stallings, Carrithers said.
As deputies confronted Stalling, he fled into a nearby wooded area, prompting deputies and Oktibbeha County volunteer firefighters to search for him for more than an hour, Carrithers.
Shortly after 10 a.m., Deputy Leslie West found Stallings and arrested him. OCH Regional Medical Center paramedics examined Stallings at the scene since he had been injured prior to fleeing into the woods.
Stallings was not hospitalized. The injury was not inflicted by deputies, Carrithers said.
Some earrings stolen in the stolen jewelry box have been recovered, Carrithers said. The investigation is continuing, he added.
Stallings was on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a prior felony conviction.
Following his arrest Thursday, MDOC officers placed a hold him, preventing him from being released on bond pending further action by a Circuit Court judge.
