COLUMBUS — Clutch moments had eluded the Starkville High Yellowjackets for much of the 2009 season, but when their backs were against the wall with no turning back Friday night the Jackets made sure to deliver.
Down 28-14 in the fourth quarter with a monster Columbus High team pounding the ball against its defense, SHS took advantage of a pair of Falcon fumbles and rallied to 29-28 win to clinch a spot in the Class 6A playoffs.
That’s just part of the comeback.

EUPORA – If this was the last time Eupora got to play in front of its home fans, the Eagles surely made it count.
The fifth-ranked Eagles (10-1) easily handled Broad Street 53-14 in the first round of Class 2A playoff action Friday night.
“I promise I wasn’t lying about how talented they were,” Eupora head coach Junior Graham said. “My kids just played real well and responded all week in practice.”
Five different Eupora players scored rushing touchdowns throughout the night as the Eagles offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage to the tune of 210 rushing yards in the first half.
“We didn’t think they’d seen a team line up and run it run up the middle as much this season,” Graham said. “We knew running east and west would be a problem with their speed.”

One day after Don Jackson said he was “optimistic” about the status of his client’s case with the NCAA, an email came across indicating that Renardo Sidney’s fate is still up in the air.
Jackson, the Montgomery, Ala.-based attorney for the Mississippi State freshman, watched on this week as the NCAA Eligibility Center parted ways with one of its directors – Bill Saum – and cleared Cincinnati freshman Lance Stephenson.
Before the Mississippi State regular season begins next Friday, Jackson expected word to come down on a decision by the NCAA on Sidney’s status an amateur.

MABEN – Friday night, the West Oktibbeha Timberwolves played host to the French Camp Panthers in a deciding game for a playoff berth. The Timberwolves showcased a great defensive effort but could not drive enough to get past the Panthers.
