Night of Beauty program set at MSU

The old saying, “make the most of what you’ve got” could be the theme for tonight’s event, sponsored by the Mississippi State University Fashion Board.
“A Night of Beauty: Discovering the Missing Ingredient” will begin at 5 p.m. tonight in the Foster Ballroom of the Colvard Student Union on the MSU campus.
The event is a dream of MSU Fashion Board President Kenya Murray, who said she wanted to develop a program to give young women tips and tricks on how to maintain proper upkeep and most of all how to connect inner beauty with outer beauty.
She said this program will help women better assess the areas of skin, hair, nails, health, fashion trends, and self esteem.
The idea for the program came from her relationships on campus.
“Many of my friends would often ask me a series of questions ranging from, ‘how can I do quick simple makeup for class,’  ‘how can I be trendy and comfortable at the same time,’ ‘where do I start with learning the basics of applying makeup’ or’ what products do you think would work best for me?’” Murray said.
“Of  course, I didn’t have all the answers to these questions and I often thought, it would be a wonderful idea if we could have trained specialists and consultants on hand to assess the needs of young ladies with these questions.”
Murray narrowed the focus for this event to help women in the areas of skin, hair, nails, health, self-esteem and trends. She said those areas seemed to be the “total package” to answer any questions and to provide the knowledge needed.
“I wish this opportunity was available to me in the past because I had to learn all of my tips and tricks on how to maintain proper upkeep as a lady thru trial and error, and they all didn’t come out being successful; however, I essentially learned what worked for me and what didn’t,” Murray said.
“We’re giving young ladies the opportunity to see all of the consultants they’d ever wish to see in one setting.”
This event is not a fashion show, but more of a come and go event.
The is the first time the MSU Fashion Board has branched out from doing a fashion show and interacting with the crowd.
Tonight’s program is a fund-raiser for the MSU Fashion Board to help produce more community service fashion shows, such as a recent show featuring clothes from the Salvation Army.
Tickets to attend this program are $5 in advance and can be purchased from any fashion Board member. Tickets will also be available at the door.

It is getting to be that time of year again — a time when the sound of bells ringing outside of Wal-Mart and Kroger spark a desire to empty pockets to help the needy in this community.
And the Salvation Army needs additional volunteers to man the kettles.
Debra Austin, volunteer coordinator for the Christmas Red Kettle Drive, said several spots remain for this year’s drive.
Volunteer slots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Kettle Drive Campaign will kick off Nov. 27 with a special ceremony at 9 a.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Starkville, featuring guest “ringers” Mississippi State University Head Football Coach Dan Mullen and Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman to get the campaign started.
The Christmas Red Kettle Campaign will begin “Black Friday” and will continue through Christmas Eve, running between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
