Legal appeal seeks reversal of SSD dress code decision

Parents, students and community members had the opportunity to sign individual affidavits Thursday night seeking the reversal of the Starkville School District Board’s recent adoption of a dress code policy.
More than 100 affidavits were signed in the first 45 minutes in the open meeting held at the Sportsplex, and close to 300 by the end of the evening.

Student developing iPhone app for Healthy Starkville

A student from Mississippi State University is developing an iPhone application for a Healthy Starkville, the Healthiest Hometown Committee announced Wednesday during its campaign kickoff.
In a technology class this semester, Matt Williams was asked to take on project of his own and decided to do something that would help the community.
“I thought I would try something different,” he said. “I’m still in the preliminary stages.”
The application would include all of Starkville’s along with information on how to get involved.
“I don’t think there’s any other municipality in the state of Mississippi with that edge,” said Dr. Linda H. Southward, Healthiest Hometown chair.
Starkville is participating in a statewide race to be declared the healthiest by the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation of Mississippi, a designation that would add $50,000 to the city’s health chest.
