Friday, 04 July 2008
 For the Daily News

The Rev. Owen Weddle has been appointed pastor for Sturgis/Big Creek United Methodist Churches, started effective Tuesday.
Weddle comes from the Weir and Salem United Methodist Churches, where he has served as pastor for the past year.
Weddle, who is from Brandon, graduated in psychology from Mississippi State University in 2007, and is currently enrolled online through Asbury Theological Seminary.
He succeeds the Rev. Ron Barham, pastor and executive director of Wood Institute, who is moving to Collinsville.
The two churches alternate Sunday services, with the first and third Sundays at Big Creek, and the second and fourth Sundays at Sturgis. Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m.
“Owen is another one of God’s many blessings. Bro. Ron and his wife Carrol will be sorely missed. They have prepared us well to receive a new minister to continue their great work,” said Cindy Hatter, Pastor-Parish Relations Committee chairwoman.

Realtors from Coldwell Banker S.R.E. have once again blanketed the city with American flags in recognition of Independence Day.  For the 11th consecutive year, agents distributed over 5,000 flags citywide.
“It takes our entire team, along with families and friends, to turn Starkville ‘red, white and blue’ overnight,” said Jean Amos Faver, broker/owner of Coldwell Banker.  “It’s an honor to be able to recognize our servicemen and women in this manner, as well as celebrating our freedom.”
