Ackerman, Eupora set for jamboree action

August 12, 2010

With just six days left before Ackerman kicks off the 2010 season, the Indians are about to get their first taste of game action.
The defending Class 2A North champs will look to fine tune their skills tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Union, with both the varsity and junior varsity teams playing two quarters apiece.
Ackerman head coach Adam Dillinger relishes the opportunity to put his team face-to-face with another team, recognizing it provides his new-look squad with that much more experience.
"We're young in a lot of spots," said Dillinger. "But we've still got a lot of seniors and most of these guys have been in our program awhile and not had the opportunity to play. Those guys haven't gotten the opportunity, not because they are bad players, but because there were guys who were more experienced in front of them."
After tonight's action, Ackerman will have a short week of practice ahead of Thursday night's season opener against Starkville Academy.
The game, originally scheduled for Friday, was moved up a day to accommodate fans who would have had to travel down a crowded Highway 12 in Sturgis at next weekend's motorcycle rally.

Eupora battles Ethel

Coming into the beginning of practice for this season, Eupora head coach Junior Graham admitted his team had a challenge.
"We lost so many players on the offensive side of the ball," said Graham.
Tonight at 7:30 p.m., Graham and the Eagles will get a glimpse at how well they've filled the holes.
Before opening up at home against Houston next Friday, Eupora hosts Ethel tonight to get a taste of actual game situations.
Both teams' varsity squads will go at it for two quarters and the junior varsity teams will play each other for one quarter.
Graham hopes tonight provides his team a boost of confidence ahead of next week's opener.
"I think we've got some good young players and if they can have a little success early, it could be a good year for us," Graham said earlier this month.
