Starkville 12's finish second at state event

This weekend Starkville's 12-year-old squad became one of those.
After dropping into the loser’s bracket on day two of the Dizzy Dean North State Tournament, Starkville battled its way back to a spot in the championship game.

The Northeast Mississippi Clippers are looking to take the momentum of winning the United States Sports Specialty Association 12-and-under State AAA Tournament into the World Series this week in McDonough, Ga.
After sweeping five games to win the state tournament in Tupelo, the Clippers are a confident group headed to the Atlanta area for World Series competition.

Starkville 8-year-olds finish second in state

WEST POINT – It may not have been the result that the Starkville 8-year-old All-Stars wanted to have on Monday, but the weekend proved they had gotten better.
Starkville finished second at the Dizzy Dean South State Tournament to Columbus after having the fifth-place showing it had the year before.
"I'm proud of the boys because it was an improvement," Starkville coach Brent DeWeese said.

Staying alive: Starkville 12-year-olds play for state title today

The Starkville 12-year olds haven't given up yet.
Starkville rattled off its fifth-straight win as it eliminated Greenwood 14-5 Monday night to stay alive in the Mississippi Dizzy Dean 12-year old North State Championship.
"They won't quit," Starkville coach Leonardo Thompson said. "It seems like the more we play, the stronger they get."

Carr of SHS makes All-Star Game

For Khristian Carr or “Khris” as she is better known to her teammates and friends, that statement could not be any more true.
After wrapping the volleyball regular season last fall, the upcoming Starkville High senior is closing out her summer by participating in the 2014 Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star Volleyball Game.

MSU's McKinney makes more lists

Benardrick McKinney continues to rack up preseason recognition. 
The Mississippi State junior linebacker found his name on two different preseason award watch lists on Monday with the Butkus Award and Rotary Lombardi Award.
The Butkus is given to the top linebacker in college football, while the Lombardi is awarded to the top collegiate lineman or linebacker.
