Lady Vols improve mark to 24-0

JACKSON – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers didn't waste any time getting a lead on Hillcrest Christian School Tuesday night and went on to defeat their hosts 67-30.

Starkville Academy, which improved to 24-0, jumped out to a 19-2 advantage and increased the margin to 39-16 at halftime.

Lady Titans leave home court as winners

CRAWFORD – Outside the East Oktibbeha gym Tuesday night things were cold and dreary, but on the inside, senior night featured bright smiles and hot-scoring.

The careers of Quanisha Doss, Chansity Evans, Chaurieal Jenkins, Savannah Blair, Jessica Reed and Lydia Stevenson were celebrated and the Lady Titans seniors were sent out with a 78-61 victory over French Camp Academy.

It's hard to believe that Craig Sword played on a sprained ankle on Saturday, especially with the way he played.

The Mississippi State freshman guard played against Georgia with the injury that he suffered against South Carolina last Wednesday.

State emerges as one of surprise SEC teams

Many people might find it hard to believe that the Mississippi State men's basketball team is 2-0 in Southeastern Conference play.

The Bulldogs ended non-conference play with a 5-7 record, but have managed to win their first two games of the conference slate.

MSU beat South Carolina 56-54 at home to open conference play and followed that up with a 72-61 win over Georgia on the road.

Jackson wants more action with Bulldogs

Gabe Jackson and Johnthan Banks have a good amount in common and are different in some ways.

Jackson and Banks both decided to come back to Mississippi State for their senior years. Banks, who just finished his senior year, flirted with the NFL before returning to Starkville. Jackson will be going into his senior year and had a same experience with the NFL.

The new coaches look toward future at East Oktibbeha

Sam Cooke once sang “a change is gonna come.”

While Cooke’s song was written many years ago and has no relation to East Oktibbeha, its reference to hard times and overcoming certainly fits the current climate at the school.

Facing accreditation issues, the school is not only undergoing changes academically, but changes are taking place athletically as well.

Bulldogs move into new home

It has been a long time coming, but the Mississippi State football team has a new home.

The Bulldogs officially moved into the Leo Seal Jr. Football Complex right behind the Palmeiro Center last week. 

The complex features coaches' offices, weight room, locker room, meeting rooms and training rooms.

When it comes to playing in the Southeastern Conference, the Mississippi State women's coach knows that playing close and not getting the job done in the end is not good enough.
