Choctaw County basketball improves in summer

ACKERMAN – One phrase quickly comes to mind when you ask Choctaw County coach Gary Beals about his basketball teams over the summer.
“They were hungry,” Beals said. “They showed up in the gym to practice and they wanted to play. They were simply hungry and that is a sign I like.”
Both set of Chargers hoop teams transferred that desire to playing time on the court this summer.

MSU announces series with North Carolina State

Mississippi State continues to show compliance with the new Southeastern Conference policy of playing series against power conference teams in the near future.
The MSU athletic department announced a home-and-home series with North Carolina State on Tuesday for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. 

Starkville 9-year-olds play State at Batesville

For the last few months Starkville 9-year-olds have been playing their baseball in the friendly confines of McKee Park.
Starting this morning that all changes as the Starkville All-Stars head north to Batesville for the Dizzy Dean State tournament.

It's going to be a busy Fourth of July weekend on the baseball fields of McKee Park.
When it comes to celebrating the nation's birthday, it only seems fitting to be following teams like National and American. Starkville has one of each during the Dizzy Dean Coach Pitch 7-year-old South State Tournament that starts Friday.

Youth sports are all about keeping up with the current trends.
Starkville Parks and Recreation is no exception to that as in recent years the move to fastpitch rather than slowpitch was made in softball.
Continuing with that trend, the SPRD built upon the program this year by adding in an all-star component at the end of the season.

The response for the Mississippi Basketball Association has been overwhelming for organizer Fred Tate.
Tate was hoping the first year of the event would be received well and it has attracted the attention he wanted to see.

Rick Ray has had to mix and match his lineup the last two seasons.
When Ray took over the Mississippi State program two seasons ago, the roster was decimated by injuries, players wanting to transfer and a few Ray let leave the program for various reasons.
This season may be a little different for Ray and the Bulldogs. He finally has a full roster to organize.

MSU teams past gather for reunion

Mississippi State's football program has a long and storied history.
The football team was formed back in 1895 when this team was referred to as the Mississippi A&M Aggies. Since then, the team has seen a name change and a mascot change.
