Columbus gets attention of the SHS coaching staff

A 23-point victory over a defending Class 3A State champion is enough to get the attention of the Starkville High School coaching staff about the next opponent.
The Columbus Falcons, fresh off a 43-20 win over the Louisville Wildcats, will invade Yellowjacket Stadium for the Class 6A, Region 2 opener Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and it will be homecoming for the Jackets.

WEST POINT – Last year's Handa Cup left a bad taste in Nancy Lopez's mouth.
The United States team lost 27-21 to the World Team in Nashville, Tenn., with Lopez's failing to get any points for Team USA.
This year, Lopez is the captain for the American squad as the Legends Tour event comes to Old Waverly Golf Club. She and her team are looking for redemption this time around.

MSU's Day suspended one game

Mississippi State will be without center Dillon Day for one game.
The Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday that the senior is suspended for one game after video surfaced of him stomping on two LSU players last Saturday.
Day will serve his suspension Oct. 4 as the Bulldogs welcome Texas A&M to Davis Wade Stadium.

Mullen wants Bulldogs to rest during bye week

Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen doesn't know if a bye week can come at a good time or a bad time.
The No. 14 Bulldogs (4-0, 1-0) are in the midst of their first, and many believe it is a good time for it.
MSU is coming off an emotional win over LSU, which is the first against the Tigers since 1999. The Bulldogs are back on the field two Saturdays from now when they host Texas A&M.

Wolverine, leader, son: Wilson accepts responsibilities at East Webster

Jack Wilson wears many hats for the East Webster Wolverines.
Wilson plays many sports at East Webster, including the responsibility of the starting quarterback every Friday night for the Wolverines.
He may be the signal caller for his coach Doug Wilson, but he is also his son.
That creates quite the unique situation at East Webster.
