Berryhill has East Webster off to 9-0 start

MABEN – When Lee Berryhill took the softball head coaching job at East Webster, he didn't know much about his team or what he was getting into.

Early in his first year with the Lady Wolverines, he has gotten his slowpitch team to a 9-0 record after wins against Tupelo 13-1 and Saltillo 17-4 on Saturday.

Much of the success has to do with his team buying into the concept of 'team.'

Investigation, difficult news for MSU fans

The news was tough for Mississippi State football fans to hear this week.

There's no college program in America that wants to hear, "NCAA investigation," but that's exactly what came to light for the Bulldogs.

Officials from MSU and the NCAA confirmed Thursday that it's working closely with each other concerning an ongoing investigation.

Miscues doom Yellowjackets

MADISON – The rains fell in Madison on Friday night leading to miscues for the Starkville Yellowjackets.
It helped the Madison Central Jaguars secure a 24-8 victory at home.

Starkville and Madison Central combined for 11 fumbles for the night with SHS having six, losing three.

Indians use gameplan to beat visiting Tigers

ACKERMAN – The Ackerman High School football game needed to pick its offense up this week.

It was evident that they had a better gameplan and were able to beat Winona 19-16 at Dale Davidson Field Friday night.

East Webster picks up 14-6 victory on the road

OKOLONA – Deangelo Liggins had 55 yards rushing on 14 carries and had a 6-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter as the East Webster Wolverines defeated Okolona 14-6 Friday night on the road.

Wilbur O'Briant returned a fumble 49 yards for a touchdown to give the Wolverines their first points of the game.

SHS coach explains situation on Myles

Starkville High School football coach Jamie Mitchell and his staff did not determine until Thursday evening that quarterback-defensive back Gabe Myles, a member of the Starkville Daily News Preseason Top 10 team, would not be able to play against the Madison Central Jaguars because of an ankle injury.

Starkville High School quarterback Gabe Myles will not play in tonight's (Friday's) road game against Madison Central High School.
SHS football coach Jamie Mitchell confirmed that Myles had a sprained ankle, which would keep him out of action.

Lady Jackets beat Amory in volleyball

The Starkville High School volleyball team continued its winning ways and beat Amory Thursday night in three sets.

The Lady Jackets took the match 25-5, 25-8 and 25-8.

Courtney Wilson had seven aces and Michaela Mills had six.

SHS improved its record to 5-3 and have won five straight.
