The Northwest Rankin Cougars were the homecoming opponent for the Starkville Yellowjackets Friday night and they came with gifts.
Northwest Rankin lost fumbles at the beginning of each half of play and Starkville took advantage of each situation to score points.

Volunteers drop home decision

Friday's game against the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots got away from the Starkville Academy Volunteers early.
Madison-Ridgeland got out to a commanding 21-0 lead after just one quarter. The Patriots ultimately went on to win the game in a dominating fashion 40-0.

East Oktibbeha loses to French Camp 43-0

CRAWFORD – Traveling to play teams on the road can be tough, and French Camp has certainly experienced their share of tough road contests this season.
However, the Panthers were able to take care of business on Friday night, shutting out the East Oktibbeha Titans 43-0, and picking up their first road win of the year.

Choctaw County wins first Region 5 outing

ACKERMAN – Choctaw County coach Adam Dillinger wanted to be 1-0 in Class 3A, Region 5 when Friday ended.
He got his wish as the Chargers knocked off Raleigh 48-25.
"We gave a complete effort (Friday)," Dillinger said. "We came out and played hard in a division game, but it starts all over next week. We have to line up again and do it next week."

Hebron Christian blanks Strider

PHEBA – David Foster saw a good offensive explosion by his team Friday night.
Foster's Hebron Christian Eagles beat the Strider Academy Rams 36-0 to start off 1-0 in district play.
"We played really well," Foster said. "We ran multiple guys in the rushing game. We got good blocking and had a good offensive effort."
The Eagles started fast by scoring twice in the first quarter.

Lewis dismissed from MSU team for breaking rule

Wendell Lewis is no longer on the Mississippi State men's basketball team a team spokesperson confirmed Thursday afternoon.
Lewis was dismissed from the squad after a violation of team rules. 

Former MSU baseball player found dead at home

The Mississippi State baseball family lost one of its former players during the night Wednesday when Dan Van Cleve was found dead in his Jackson home.
No cause of death was immediately known.
Van Cleve was the starting center fielder for the 1985 Bulldogs, a team that finished tied for third at the College World Series. He played for coach Ron Polk.
