Runnels relishes role: SA running back takes being captain on team seriously

Being the number one tailback for a football team can bring on quite a bit of stress and excitement.

Senior running back Colby Runnels not only holds the role of the top running back for the Starkville Academy Volunteers, but he's also a captain on team.

According to Starkville Academy coach Jeff Terrill, Runnels is one of the best players for the job.

Hard work gives Horsley chance to help Jackets

Starkville High School sophomore running back Jaquez Horsley has found the secret to getting playing time and succeeding on the varsity level.
Actually, there's no trick to it when hard work is involved.

Horsley has put in the necessary work in practice and has emerged as the top rusher for the Yellowjackets through five games this season.

Bulldogs look to regain focus in off week

Entering the bye week, teams get a chance to get healthy and fine tune a few things it has not been able to work on during the normal grind of a game week.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are one of those.

After Saturday night's 30-10 victory over South Alabama, MSU stands 4-0 for the first time since 1999 and moved up in both polls on Sunday.

Not since 1999 have the Mississippi State Bulldogs opened the season a perfect 4-0, but on Saturday night, that’s exactly what Dan Mullen’s team did with a 30-10 win over South Alabama.

After a slow start, the Bulldog offense got going in the second quarter thanks to a LaDarius Perkins 44-yard scoring run to break the ice and give State the early 7-0 lead.

JACKSON – It turned out to be an easy Class 5A, Region 2, District 6 opener for the Starkville High School Yellowjackets.

After beginning the season with a 1-3 record against tough non-division competitive, Starkville went on the road to defeat the Jackson Lanier Bulldogs 48-0 on Friday night.
