East Webster returns to Calhoun County looking for football win

Class 2A, Region 4 competition kicked off a couple of weeks ago for the East Webster Wolverines and tonight that ship continues to sail in that direction.
This time the tide takes the team back into Calhoun County where they will square off against the Trojans of Bruce.

Junior Vols win conference in football

The Starkville Academy junior varsity Volunteers capped an undefeated season in Class 3A-District II and captured the conference championship by defeating Pillow Academy out of Greenwood 8-7 Thursday night at J.E. Logan Field.
Starkville Academy trailed 7-0 at halftime, but took the lead early in the second half on a 13-yard run by William Wolfe and a two-point conversion run by Taylor Arnold.

It was a bittersweet moment for eight girls Thursday night.
Eight Starkville Lady Yellowjackets played their final regular season match at the Beehive, a straight set win over New Hope.

East Webster sweeps first round 2A slow pitch softball set

MABEN – The East Webster Lady Wolverines came out in game one of their opening round Class 2A slow pitch softball series a little rusty.
Still even with the uncharacteristic play the Lady Wolverines achieved a 13-3 victory before shaking themselves to pull out a 17-0 game two victory, allowing them to sweep Puckett in the first round of Class 2A postseason action.

Bulldogs in better shape: Ray believes depth shows with the men

Mississippi State head coach Rick Ray thinks this year's team is better equipped to handle injuries.
That's a good thing because the Bulldogs are already down two players before the season starts. MSU junior guard Craig Sword could be out at the most two games, while junior college transfer big man Johnny Zuppardo is out for the entire season.

Starkville native Ware responds to challenge of more bodies in post at MSU

Gavin Ware hasn't had to compete with anybody for points in the post the last two seasons.
Ware has been one of the few big men Mississippi State has had in Rick Ray's first two seasons. This season will be totally different as the Bulldogs have several big men vying for playing time with Ware.

There are five newcomers on this year's Mississippi State women's basketball team.
They are members of a top 20 ranked recruiting class and were the top players on their high school or AAU teams.
It remains to be seen what kind of impact they can make for coach Vic Schaefer's Bulldogs, but as of now, he doesn't see them backing down from a challenge.

Dillingham hears coach, wants to become more consistent with her shot

Mississippi State women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer likes everything about sophomore guard Dominique Dillingham.
Well, almost everything.
Schaefer said during Wednesday's MSU basketball on-campus media day that there is one thing keeping Dillingham from being a first-team All-Southeastern Conference player and that is consistently making an outside shot.

MSU's winning streak in football nation's second longest

Mississippi State currently owns the second-longest winning streak in the nation.
The Bulldogs have won nine-straight games dating back to last season. Defending national champion Florida State has won 22 games in a row. 
However, MSU is ranked No. 1 in the country in both the Associated Press and Amway Coaches polls and the Seminoles are No. 2 in both.
