Jackets pick up baseball victory at home

Coach Travis Garner is not giving up on the Starkville Yellowjackets.
Despite not being on the winning side of many games and falling in two Class 6A, Region 3 games last week to Northwest Rankin, Garner still likes his ball club and believes better days are ahead.
The start of that may come with Saturday's 7-5 non-region victory over Winona at home.

Wolverines respond behind sophomore Gilliland on mound

MABEN – East Webster baseball coach Wes Johnson is always looking for a pitcher to put up some zeros.
On Saturday, he went to a sophomore who had never pitched in a varsity game before to do just that against the Philadelphia Tornadoes.
Carson Gilliland entered the game in the third inning with the Wolverines down 5-3 and didn't allow any more runs to the Tornadoes.

MSU announces series with BYU

Mississippi State announced Friday a home-and-home series with BYU is scheduled for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
A source confirmed the series was happening on Thursday.

SHS loses decision at Northwest Rankin

FLOWOOD – The Starkville Yellowjackets dropped an 8-2 decision on the road to Northwest Rankin Friday night in seven innings.
With the loss, the Jackets saw their records to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in Class 6A, Region 3.

Vols shut out the Generals

GREENVILLE – The Starkville Academy Volunteers shut out the Washington School Generals 5-0 on the road Thursday night to improve their record to 12-1 this season.
Ben Moorehead went 3-3 at the plate for Starkville Academy. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fifth and sixth innings.

The memories of the Tulane Green Wave are not all pleasant for the Mississippi State women's basketball team.
After coach Vic Schaefer took over the MSU program, the Bulldogs held two closed-door scrimmages with the Green Wave.
