Mitchell departs Eupora for a job at familiar place

Nothing lasts forever.
That is the lesson the now former Eupora Eagles coach Brad Mitchell is currently learning.
After enjoying one of his most successful baseball seasons that saw Eupora finish 17-12 with an appearance in the Class 2A State Championship game, the coach is departing to embark on a new journey as an assistant coach at Saltillo.

Process continues for the Volunteers

There's not much of an offseason for high school football teams.
Once spring practice begins in April, it's non-stop preparation through the end of spring into summer conditioning and fall camp.
The Starkville Academy Volunteers just completed spring drills and coach Jeff Terrill said the focus turns to the plan for the summer.

Some teams must have a good showing to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Some teams are looking to host and need a couple of wins, while some are trying to lock up a national seed.

There are 15,586 reasons for the NCAA baseball selection committee to consider the Mississippi State Bulldogs for a regional host site this year.
That was the NCAA on-campus record attendance set earlier this season when the Bulldogs hosted the Ole Miss Rebels on April 12.

82 Challenge events keep youth swinging

Many times with the end of school also means the decrease in opportunities to play sporting events.
That lack of practice can oftentimes place developing athletes behind in their respective sports.
One group in North Mississippi is working to combat that issue with the 82 Challenge Baseball and Softball program.

Eupora's run ends short of state title

PEARL – The Eupora Eagles entered the postseason as the third best team in their division.
They fought and climbed their way to being one of the final two squads standing in Class 2A baseball.
The final series was a tough challenge and in the end, Eupora saw its season end with a 7-1 loss to Taylorsville in the second game of the state championship series.

The Eupora Eagles have nothing to hang their heads about.
It was no doubt that it was tough for the Eagles to accept the second place trophy after Friday's 7-1 loss in the Class 2A State championship series to Taylorsville, but they certainly made a playoff run that will be remembered for many years to come.

Clanton finishes busy week at NEMCABB All-Star Game

These are busy days for Tanner Clanton.
As a senior at Starkville High School, Clanton went through graduation on Friday night.
Clanton literally turned in his cap and gown for his baseball uniform as he left Starkville for Corinth right after graduation to participate in today's Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association for Better Baseball All-Star Game. The 3A-4A-5A-6A game begins at 7 p.m.

Gators eliminate Bulldogs from the SEC Tournament

HOOVER, Ala. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs got to see why the Florida Gators won the Southeastern Conference regular season championship.
The No. 17 Bulldogs were eliminated from the SEC Tournament by the top-seeded Gators 5-1 Friday night. 

MSU's Pirtle sees streak end, while Heck, Bradford keep their's going

HOOVER, Ala. – Brett Pirtle has been superior at reaching base when the Mississippi State Bulldogs play a Southeastern Conference opponent. 
He had a 63-game streak in that area, but that came to an end in a 5-1 loss to top-seeded Florida in the SEC Tournament Friday night.
He had reached base safely in 39-straight games this season, but he went 0-for-2.
