MSU's Patrasc makes move up the ranks

There is no sophomore jinx as far as Mississippi State's Georgiana Patrasc is concerned.
Patrasc is putting together a solid second year with the Bulldogs and saw her ranking improve dramatically this week.
After knocking off No. 55 ranked Eve Repic of Tennessee 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday, Patrasc saw her standing move up 28 spots from No. 93 to No. 65.

Starkville scratches out victory in second game

Maintaining on the part of the defense is what kept Starkville High in it on the baseball diamond Wednesday. Not once did the team let things get out of hand and in the end, it was the Yellowjackets picking up a 4-3 victory.

Opener goes SHS way with pair of big innings

Starkville High School baseball coach Travis Garner likes offense.
Garner really enjoyed the final two innings from his team in the first game of a doubleheader against Horn Lake Wednesday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets scored nine runs in two innings, with six runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh, to defeat the Eagles 10-9.

Bradford back, better to help the Bulldogs

Mississippi State head coach John Cohen decided to hold out one of his veteran players with the most experience during a three-game stretch.
The sixth-year Bulldog head coach sat senior outfielder C.T. Bradford against Michigan State, Eastern Illinois and South Alabama earlier this month.
Bradford was bothered by a minor hip injury, and Cohen was extra cautious with the Pace, Fla., native.

Byhalia's Bougard commits to competing with Bulldogs

Erica Bougard is quickly becoming a household name in the track and field world.
As a sophomore last season, Bougard ended the indoor season as the 2013 NCAA Indoor Pentathlon National champion and just recently as a junior, she was crowned 2014 Southeastern Conference champion in the same event.

Stropp's progresses well during MSU men's tennis career

Malte Stropp has come a long way since stepping on the Mississippi State campus as a freshman in 2010.
The Mississippi State senior tennis player has been through it all with his Bulldog teammates. He has overcome adversity and helped rejuvenate the MSU tennis program.
When head coach Per Nilsson thinks about his veteran, he sees what Mississippi State tennis should be about.

Brown sharp as Bulldogs win at home

Preston Brown has only gotten better with each start on the mound.
The Mississippi State redshirt sophomore right hander proved that again Tuesday night.
The Germantown, Tenn., native pitched eight solid innings as No. 23 Mississippi State cruised to a 3-0 victory over Southern Illinois at Dudy Noble Field.

Mississippi State seeks SEC Tournament wins

Mississippi State hopes to draw off of its experience in last year's Southeastern Conference Tournament.
The Bulldogs beat South Carolina 70-59 in the first round of last year's tournament in Nashville, Tenn.
MSU lost in the next round to Tennessee, but the win over the Gamecocks is something the Bulldogs can point to as they enter this year's tournament.

SMITH: Mini Superdome sharpens East Webster landscape

It resembles a miniature Superdome.
The new basketball gymnasium being constructed on the campus of East Webster High School is a very nice and impressive structure.
Since the tornado that ripped through the Cumberland community and destroyed the school a few years ago, the people there have been working very hard to rebuild.

Vickers gets top in seven events

Like father like son might be one of the best mantras to describe Brad and Cade Vickers.
In college, Brad was a NSISC All-Conference swimmer and diver at Delta State where he won a conference championship in the 200-Butterfly and was chosen a three-time NCAA All-American.
