Ray has more players available at MSU

Coach Rick Ray didn't have much of a roster to work with when he took over the Mississippi State program in 2012.
The Bulldogs only had eight scholarship players and had 10 players on the roster in the first year. In the second year, he had the same eight scholarship players, with Tyson Cunningham – a former walk-on – playing on scholarship, and football player De'Runnya Wilson playing some.

The Mississippi State softball team will have 14 underclassmen available for competition this year.
Even though the Bulldogs lost eight letterwinners, including the school's all-time leading strikeout queen in pitcher Alison Owen, head coach Vann Stuedeman considers this year to be a "reloading" situation and not rebuilding.

Bulldogs making strides with third win in the league

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have only won seven Southeastern Conference games the previous two seasons.
Through eight league games this time around, the Bulldogs already have three wins. Third-year head coach Rick Ray had to mix and match lineups the past two seasons leading to four wins in his first year and three in his second.

Mississippi State hadn't found much success in the last few minutes of the last two ballgames.
Head coach Rick Ray wanted to change that, so he went over a couple of 2-minute drills in practice on Friday to stress the importance of finishing a game strong.
It seemed to work.
The Bulldogs finished the game on a 19-10 run and downed LSU in the process at Humphrey Coliseum Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs take a No. 18 ranking and records of 22-2 overall and 7-2 to Knoxville, Tenn., today for a 2 p.m. matchup with the Lady Vols. The game can be seen on the SEC Network.

Sam Bryant spends his days working with the next generation of girls basketball players at Starkville High School.
