Instead, he let his starter go the distance.
Lucas Laster threw his first-career complete game and led the Bulldogs to a 5-2 victory over Eastern Illinois to end a 23-game home stand.

Starkville Academy splits with Washington at home

SHS baseball suffers shutout in first region game

The Starkville Yellowjackets were hoping that the beginning of the Class 6A, Region 3 schedule was going to bring better results.
That was not the case on Tuesday night.
Starkville was held to four hits by Northwest Rankin pitcher Hunter Smith and suffer an 11-0 loss at home.
Tyler Barnes had two of the four hits for the Jackets, while A.J. Smith and J.D. Taylor had one single each.

Starkville beats West Point in softball

The Starkville Lady Jackets jumped out to an early lead on West Point and captured a victory on Tuesday.
The game was decided quickly as the Lady Jackets exerted its will early with 13 runs in the first three innings.

Starkville Christian claims softball win in season-opener over Grace

The Starkville Christian School Lady Cougars won their season-opening softball game on Tuesday by defeating Grace Christian of Louisville 14-3 at the Starkville Sportsplex.
Starkville Christian jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings, then added one run in the third, one run in the fourth and five more in the fifth.

It has been a tall mountain to climb for coach Rick Ray.
Ray took over the Mississippi State program on April 1, 2012. His first year ended with a 10-22 overall record and a 4-14 mark in Southeastern Conference play. The second year saw a better overall record at 14-19, but MSU finished 3-15 in league play. Both times it won a game in the SEC Tournament.

MSU's Jenkins arrested on simple assault charge

It wasn't the greatest of weeks for the Mississippi State football program off the field.
The Clarion Ledger reported that redshirt freshman offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins of the Bulldogs was arrested Thursday on a warrant for simple assault. Records showed that the Clarksdale native was booked and released from the Oktibbeha County Jail on bond the same day.

That's what Mississippi State softball player Alexis Silkwood did on Sunday.
After taking the loss in the circle on Saturday by giving up three runs (all earned) on two hits and two walks to the Texas A&M Aggies in the seventh inning, Silkwood came back on Sunday and went the distance in a 7-5 victory for the Bulldogs.
