Wolverines get home playoff game with victory

EUPORA – The East Webster Wolverines saw the big crowd that came across the county to support the football team and didn't want to let them down.
The Wolverines rewarded those fans by beating the Eupora Eagles 27-7 Thursday night and secured a home playoff game to begin the Class 2A playoffs next week.

Points at a premium: Starkville looks to score against a tough Warren Central defense

Points may be hard to come by at Yellowjacket Stadium tonight.
With that in mind, the Starkville Yellowjackets want to take advantage of every opportunity to score against the stout defense the Warren Central Vikings possess.
At times, the Jackets were not as sharp as offensive coordinator David Boykin wanted them to be in last week's 31-6 win over Jackson Murrah.

SA seniors enjoying success

A select group of Starkville Academy Volunteers will don the blue and orange for one final time on J.E. Logan this regular season.
Beginning at 7 p.m., tonight the Volunteers will welcome Jackson Academy to town for a “big, divisional game” as well as a celebration of a special group of 16 seniors.

Choctaw County hosts Philadelphia

That is exactly what Choctaw County has done this season.
There have been some losses and it has not always been pretty, but whenever needed, the Chargers seem to always rally amongst themselves to do what is necessary to find success and push the team to a 7-3 overall record and leave them currently standing at 3-1 in Class 3A, Region 5 competition.

MSU defense ready for Arkansas

Not only are the Eagles and Wolverines members of the same school district which creates an innate rivalry, but they also line up each week as members of Class 2A, Region 4. With that added bonus when the teams meet on a field of play, the antes are always a little steeper and this season is no different.

Vikings bring 'defensive mentality' into matchups against opponents

Starkville High School coach Jamie Mitchell is not surprised that the Warren Central Vikings have one of the best defenses in the state.
When Warren Central head coach Josh Morgan played safety at Mississippi State, he brought a certain level of intensity to the game.
Mitchell sees the same type of character with Morgan's Vikings on defense.

Jackson Academy has nice offensive numbers

One touchdown was all that stood between Jackson Academy and Madison-Ridgeland Academy when the whistle blew last Friday night.
The Raiders stood on the losing end of that deficit.
This week Jackson Academy looks to right the path as it travels to take on the Associated Press No. 2 Volunteers of Starkville Academy (8-1, 3-0).

Lady Vols open basketball season on road

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers will get a test immediately as they open the basketball season today.
Traditionally strong Leake Academy returns to the SA schedule after being absent for the last couple of seasons.
For coach Glenn Schmidt, playing Leake is a good way for the Lady Vols to open the season.
