Road to Starkville begins this week

The road to Starkville begins for three of our area teams this Friday.
It still sounds kind of strange to write "road to Starkville," but that's the destination that Mississippi High School Activities Association football teams want to reach for state championships this season.

Bulldogs find different ways to win games

Mississippi State's season has been filled with many different types of games and many different types of wins.
The top-ranked Bulldogs are 8-0 overall and 5-0 as they sit atop the Southeastern Conference Western Division. The Bulldogs have won games where they have been dominant from start to finish. They've had games where they've had good starts and had to hang on at the end.

Harrell proves to be a leader for Volunteers

Drew Harrell of the Starkville Academy Volunteers is one of those leaders that seemed to always possess the natural ability, but truly molded his abilities through the fire on the football field.

Hebron Christian looks to second-straight playoff chance

PHEBA – All coach David Foster wanted for his Hebron Christian Eagles was an opportunity in the playoffs.
After compiling a 3-1 record in Class A, District 7, the Eagles earned the chance at their second-consecutive postseason spot.
The reward is a return trip to Sharkey-Issaquena Academy, where Hebron lost a 36-0 decision on Sept. 5.

It wasn't the prettiest of wins and it wasn't the most impressive win, but it was a win nonetheless.
Mississippi State managed to rally from a double-digit deficit to knock off Arkansas 17-10 Saturday night in the first November Southeastern Conference contest for both teams.

EMCC goes for another state crown next Saturday

The East Mississippi Community College Lions have a chance to break out of an odd way of doing things next Saturday.
After winning MACJC State championships in the odd-numbered years of 2009, 2011 and 2013, the Lions can defend their title this season and get one in an even year.

SHS teams finish third at the state swim meet, Vickers takes individual gold in freestyle

Much was expected of the Starkville High swim team Saturday at the State Championship Meet. After a long day of swimming, both the boys and girls squads finished in third place.
Madison Central was the first place girls team with a solid 123 points. Completing the top tier of competitors was Tupelo and Starkville with 103 and 61 points respectively.

It's all about surviving in November in the Southeastern Conference Western Division. 
That's exactly what the top-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs did.
MSU rallied from down 10-0 in the first half to beat Arkansas 17-10 on a chilly Saturday night in Davis Wade Stadium.
