Early baseball schedule giving Jackets big challenges

The Starkville Yellowjackets are hoping that playing against good competition will help them improve on the baseball field.
Even though the Jackets have lost games to Clinton, Brandon and West Lauderdale, they believe the early schedule is beneficial heading into Class 6A, Region 3 play. Later in the day, they picked up a 17-0 win over West Lowndes and stand 1-3 this season.

The time is now for Starkville High.
When the second half of the season started, the Yellowjackets hit their stride allowing them to end the regular season at 24-5 with a Class 6A, Region 3 tournament title and competing in the Class 6A playoffs.

East Webster uses determined effort for state tournament win

JACKSON – It was the type of determined effort that the East Webster Lady Wolverines needed on Friday afternoon at Mississippi Coliseum.
Despite not scoring a single point in one period, the Lady Wolverines never lost sight of their goal and in the end, they fought their way to a 40-33 victory over Heidelberg in the Class 2A State Tournament quarterfinals.

Bulldogs says bye to four seniors Saturday

Mississippi State says good bye to four players Saturday, at least for the regular season.
MSU (12-18, 5-12) hosts Missouri (9-21, 3-14) today in the final game of the regular season and the Bulldogs will honor their seniors.

Mississippi State head coach John Cohen wants to see 28 to 30 competitive at-bats in a game.
For the second-straight game, the Bulldog offensive struggled and didn't get to that number.
This time it was in a 2-1 loss to San Diego.
"I just didn't think we had enough competitive at bats," Cohen said. "It's frustrating when you don't have very competitive at-bats through your one through nine."

MSU looks for better softball outing after Friday loss to Georgia

The Mississippi State Bulldogs look to have a better day on the softball field.
In Friday's Southeastern Conference opener against the Georgia Bulldogs, MSU did not perform up to its best.
State was only out-hit by Georgia by one 6-5, but couldn't get the clutch knock and lost a 6-1 home decision to the No. 8 team in the country.

Fanning-Otis honored as MSU's SEC Legend

Sharon Fanning-Otis has managed to remain a part of the Mississippi State family even though she does not coach the women's basketball program anymore.
She is visible at many MSU athletic functions and is one of the biggest fans of coach Vic Schaefer's Bulldogs.

Bulldogs host Toreros for three-game series

This will be the first weekend where Mississippi State will only play three games.
That means head coach John Cohen has to cut down his rotation to three pitchers. With one week before Southeastern Conference play starts, Cohen will start a junior and two sophomores.
The No. 8 Bulldogs (13-1) welcome San Diego (4-6) to Dudy Noble Field this weekend.
