Eupora's Kent ready for next football level at NECC

EUPORA – More than football draws Eupora’s Kris Kent to Northeast Community College.
From the scholastic majors offered to the people, Kent felt at home when he visited Booneville.
“They have a great diesel program and I am interested in that area,” Kent said. “Everyone I met when I visited was nice. I enjoyed talking with the coaches. I had fun up there and they have a nice campus.”

The dream continues for Lexi Turner.
Turner, a senior soccer player at Starkville High School, was looking for the right opportunity to continue playing the sport she loved.
She found it at Louisiana-Lafayette and signed with the Ragin' Cajuns on Wednesday.

MSU begins softball season with Bulldog Kickoff

Mississippi State softball coach Vann Stuedeman likes tournaments.
She enjoys them to start the season and says they can benefit a team for the end of the season.
The Bulldog Kickoff Classic, which begins today, gives MSU plenty of opportunities to get on the field.

Today is the first day that high school athletes can sign national letter of intents – National Signing Day – and football will be the one sport that is talked about more than any other.

It's amazing to see how far National Signing Day for football has come.
Once upon a time, it wasn't as easy to keep track of which high school and junior college players were putting their names on the dotted line. About 30 years ago, there was no internet and no fax machines, so getting that information out was quite a challenge.

At least 12 Jackets to sign today

The largest group that football coach Jamie Mitchell has ever had will sign to play at the next level this morning.
As many as 12 Yellowjackets and possibly two more will make their future plans public during a signing party at the school.

SHS sweeps Grenada on the home court

The scoring of Tyson Carter, Raphael Leonard, Jesse Little and Josh Skinner was just too much for the Grenada Chargers to deal with on Tuesday night.
The Starkville High School quartet combined for 61 points to help their team to a 79-64 non-region victory over Grenada at the Beehive.

Home season finishes for 4 senior Volunteers

All things eventually come to an end.
For a quartet of Volunteer basketball players, that conclusion came Tuesday evening with Brandon Lane, John McReynolds, Tyler Richardson and Andrew Richardson played their final regular season home game at Starkville Academy.
“First of all, we have four outstanding seniors that I love dearly and I am proud to have coached,” Vols coach Bruce Allsup said.

Mississippi State won't have to watch film of Tennessee playing another opponent.
The Bulldogs have film of themselves playing the Volunteers from this season.
MSU and Tennessee meet today in a rematch of a game that was played earlier this season. The tip is set for 6 p.m. from Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn., and can be seen on the SEC Network.

Coach Rick Ray didn't have much of a roster to work with when he took over the Mississippi State program in 2012.
The Bulldogs only had eight scholarship players and had 10 players on the roster in the first year. In the second year, he had the same eight scholarship players, with Tyson Cunningham – a former walk-on – playing on scholarship, and football player De'Runnya Wilson playing some.
