MSU's Mullen says ranking won't help against Razorbacks

There is still over one month left in the college football season, but the inaugural College Football Playoff is a hot topic of conversation these days.
The selection committee released its first poll Tuesday, and it featured three Southeastern Conference teams. Mississippi State was No. 1, while Auburn was No. 3 and Ole Miss was No. 4. Florida State was ranked No. 2.

He has performed everywhere from quarterback to wide receiver to running back on offense and safety on defense.

With the type of seasons that some of our area high school football teams are having, the task of picking a game of the week has been more of a challenge than in other years. There have been some pretty good matchups taking place the last several weeks.

SA boys, girls capture top 10 finishes in state

CLINTON – The Starkville Academy cross country team secured a pair of top 10 finishes at the Class AAA State Championship meet at Choctaw Trails on the campus of Mississippi College on Monday.
The boys team, which claimed the AAA North title, finished fourth in the state behind Jackson Prep (1), Presbyterian Christian School (2) and Columbia Academy (3).  

SHS falls on road in North Half volleyball final

SOUTHAVEN – The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets saw their volleyball season come to an end on Tuesday night by losing a 3-0 decision on the road to DeSoto Central in the Class III North final.
After dropping the first two sets 25-10 and 25-16, the Lady Jackets rallied a bit and lost a close third set 25-21.

Dan Mullen admitted on Saturday that the 1B defensive players didn't have a good game.
Mississippi State beat Kentucky 45-31, but the 1B defense gave up several yards and points to the Wildcats. The 1Bs played for 22 plays, while the 1As played for 50.
