Starkville Academy captures the second game of twinbill

JACKSON – It was not a good night for the pitchers during the game between the Starkville Academy Volunteers and Jackson Academy as the two teams put up 17 runs combined, but the Vols came out on the winning side 9-8 on Thursday.
The game was the second in a doubleheader that lasted well into the evening. Starkville Academy lost the first game 6-0.

MSU looks to have good weekend against Auburn

Mississippi State head coach John Cohen feels like his team is very capable of getting on a roll.
The Bulldogs enter this weekend losing nine out of their last 14. They have also dropped three-straight weekend series, including two in Southeastern Conference play.
MSU looks to start a stretch of good play this weekend, as it hosts Auburn for a three-game set at Dudy Noble Field.

Bulldogs host defending national champs

The Southeastern Conference has seen its share of national champions in the sport of softball over the years.
Florida was the team to win it all last season.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs get the opportunity to host the Gators this weekend and as usual coach Vann Stuedeman's squad embraces the opportunity.

The heart of the Starkville Yellowjacket batting order delivered on Thursday night.
A.J. Brown and Tyler Barnes had five of the 10 hits for Starkville in a 14-7 victory over West Point at Yellowjacket Stadium/Carlisle Field.
It was the type of game at the plate that head coach Travis Garner wanted to see out of the Jackets.

SA drops opener to Jackson Academy

JACKSON – Starkville Academy fell behind 3-0 early and never managed much offense to cut into the deficit as the Volunteers fell 6-0 to Jackson Academy in the first game of a double header Thursday night.
Jackson Academy scored three times in the first and three more times in the sixth inning.

Perfect score: Howland passes test, ready to hit recruiting trail for MSU

Ben Howland had to take a recruiting test before he could ever contact the first recruit or hit the recruiting trail.
Howland was hired by Mississippi State on Monday. He stayed up until 2:30 a.m. Monday night/Tuesday morning studying for his test.
He took it first thing Tuesday morning.

Beniquez Brown works to be Bulldog leader at linebacker

It may be strange for some Mississippi State fans to look upon the practice fields this spring and not see Benardrick McKinney.
The Tunica native not only was the anchor of the linebackers, but the entire defense for most of the last three seasons. The linebacker has since moved on and is expected to go high in next month's National Football League Draft.

Cutura adjusts in time on tennis court for the Bulldogs

Discipline and hard work must be part of the equation and those ingredients have helped Mate Cutura make progress as a Mississippi State men's tennis player.
The junior college transfer has progressed quickly during his time with the Bulldogs and has excelled in the Southeastern Conference.
