The Starkville School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to remove the System to Enhance Educational Performance screening program, cutting three of the annual evaluations for students in kindergarten through second grade.

Mississippi State University announced Tuesday that its College of Business has received a $650,000 grant from the federal Economic Development Administration, which it will use to leverage a previously announced $1,065,000 EDA grant to aid rural economic development in 61 Mississippi counties, including Oktibbeha County.

The Lady Jackets (2-3) played at the Starkville Sportsplex, while improvements were being made to the Beehive.
The margin of the loss didn't matter as much to the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers Tuesday afternoon as the loss itself.
Even as the score grew in Copiah Academy's favor at the Lady Volunteer softball field, the fact that it was a conference game made it hurt a little more for Starkville Academy.
Jenice C. Allgood, 39, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 in the Welch Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donnie Davis and Mrs. Ann Jetton conducting the service.
Burial follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home.
Mr. Edward Paul Hendrick, 61, died Monday, August 6, 2012 at his residence in Sturgis.Â
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Grant Arinder officiating.
Burial will follow at Craig Springs Cemetery in Sturgis.
Visitation will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home.
