School may be out, but a couple of Starkville High tennis players still have a reason to keep the racket handy.
This week Mikala Taylor and Jack Bryan venture to Jackson to represent Starkville in the Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star tennis match.

Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen will have some explaining to do today at Southeastern Conference Media Days.
Once again the Bulldogs are having a difficult time gaining national respect in the preseason.
A few weeks ago Phil Steele came out with his bowl projections for the postseason and MSU was not to be found in that listing.

Many consider the start of the new season when conference media days hit some time in July.
The Southeastern Conference Media Days started Tuesday in Hoover, Ala., at The Wynfrey Hotel.

Russell enjoys time at Manning Academy

Tyler Russell is no stranger to the Manning Passing Academy.
The Mississippi State senior quarterback spent two years as a camper at the Manning Passing Academy. He returned this summer.
This time the Meridian native was a counselor and not a camper.

Perkins may return punts for MSU

LaDarius Perkins has been an all-purpose type of player for Mississippi State in his career.
This season, the senior running back may be used in punt returns.
"I talked to Coach (Dan) Mullen about that and he told me to just get with Coach (Billy) Gonzales to get me prepared to do that," Perkins said.

Several Bulldogs players make watch lists

There are going to be several Mississippi State Bulldogs worth keeping an eye on for the upcoming football season.
On Monday, MSU had its total of players making preseason watch lists increased to eight.
Bulldog linebackers Deontae Skinner and Benardrick McKinney were selected to the Butkus Award watch list, while offensive guard Gabe Jackson made the Rotary Lombardi Award watch list.
