Volunteers pick up 31-10 win on road

PELAHATCHIE – The Starkville Academy Volunteers won their second game in as many attempts to start the season with a 31-10 decision over East Rankin Academy on Friday night.
Houston Clark was sharp offensively for the Vols with 123 yards rushing on 13 carries and one touchdown and completed 5-of-10 pass attempts for 74 yards and another score.

Wolverines make a 35-0 statement in beating Tigers

MABEN – Sometimes it only takes one quarter to make a statement.
That's what the East Webster Wolverines did on Friday night.
The Wolverines used a high-scoring first quarter to take down Noxapater 35-0, improving to 2-0 this young season. East Webster scored three touchdowns in the opening period, allowing coach Doug Wilson’s team to step into the driver’s seat early.

Eupora plays complete game in defeating French Camp

FRENCH CAMP – Complete might be the only word available to describe the play displayed by Eupora Friday evening.
After a strong showing on both offense and defense, the Eagles departed French Camp with a 51-0 victory.

SHS, Oxford clash: Rankings on the line for Little Egg Bowl

A football series was started last year between the Starkville Yellowjackets and the Oxford Chargers in hopes that a rivalry would develop similar to what the colleges of those towns have.
Mississippi State and Ole Miss battle for the Golden Egg Trophy each year and now Starkville and Oxford play in a game that was called Little Egg Bowl last season.

Eupora travels to meet French Camp

French Camp might be the Panthers, but Eupora coach Junior Graham says he is expecting a “dog fight” when the teams take the field tonight.
“They really played Choctaw County tough,” Graham said. “(They) had some breaks go against them, but that game was a lot closer than the score indicated.”

Bulldogs don't take Golden Eagles lightly

Southern Mississippi entered last year's finale at UAB 0-11 and on a 23-game losing streak.
The Golden Eagles stunned UAB, and the college football community for that matter, 62-27 to end the skid and notch their first win in two seasons. That was the only bright spot of Todd Monken's first season in Hattiesburg.

MSU opens volleyball season looking to improve

The Mississippi State volleyball team plays 15 non-conference matches to start the season.
Four of those non-conference matchups take place this weekend at the Sam Houston Invitational in Huntsville, Tex.
For the Bulldogs, it's not about playing Cal State Bakersville, Sam Houston State, Texas Pan American and Louisiana-Monroe. They want to get a good look at themselves.

Lady Wolverines get 14-3 softball victory at home

MABEN – Senior Kendall Wilkinson said when the East Webster Lady Wolverines put it all together, "no one can beat us."
The Noxapater Lady Tigers couldn't do it on Thursday.
After spotting the Lady Tigers two runs in the first inning, the Lady Wolverines came back with a vengeance and registered a 14-3 victory in five innings at home.

Loss of 5A title makes Oxford a hungry team

The Oxford Chargers were eight minutes away from a Class 5A State championship last December.
After establishing a 35-21 lead in the fourth quarter in Jackson, Oxford could not hold off Picayune as the Maroon Tide scored 21 unanswered points to claim the title.
The Chargers were disappointed that they could not finish the season strong in 2014 and are eager to make up for it this year.
