West Point looks for improvement

The West Point Green Wave are looking to get a little bit better each week.

After getting beaten on a last-second field goal by South Panola 12-10 in the first week, West Point had an open date before defeating Columbus last Friday 26-19.

The Green Wave make the trip to face rival Starkville at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

MSU, Auburn look for QBs to step up

The winner of the football matchup between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers on Saturday will gain an early advantage in the Southeastern Conference Western Division race.

It creates a certain measure of pressure on quarterbacks making their seventh and second starts of their careers.

He set the standard for what it would now mean to play for the Bulldogs.

Hard work, determination and attention to detail would all be a factor in being a part of a new era in MSU basketball.

The success of the Southeastern Conference is worth bragging about at every opportunity.

As far as the first weekend of football goes, it doesn't get much better than what the SEC was able to accomplish out of the gate. The league doesn't appear to be ready to relinquish its standing as the toughest in the country.

Lady Jackets use defensive strategy for 3-0 home volleyball win

The Starkville High School volleyball team did something for the first time this season Tuesday night.

Vivian Barksdale played the defensive speciality position, libero, and the Lady Yellowjackets took a 3-0 win over Amory in the Beehive.

Young SHS softball squad has a difficult time against New Hope

The Starkville High School Lady Yellowjackets may have taken a tough loss at home Tuesday night against the New Hope Lady Trojans, but they also saw signs of what they could become in the future.

Even though Starkville eventually dropped a 17-0 decision to New Hope at the SHS softball field, head coach Lisa Spencer saw some things that she liked from her team, especially offensively.

Back to work: No Labor Day off for MSU with Auburn next on slate

Monday may have been Labor Day and most people took the holiday off.
When it comes to having to play the Auburn Tigers next, the Mississippi State Bulldogs had no choice but to go to work.

MSU head football coach Dan Mullen saw the holiday as an opportunity to get some things accomplished while the players didn't have to attend classes.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs made a rather successful debut in the 2012 season opener Saturday night.

On Sunday, they turned the page and their focus to the beginning of the Southeastern Conference season and the Auburn Tigers.

Bulldogs earn third-straight shutout in soccer

The University of Louisiana-Monroe tried and failed on Friday night.

On Sunday afternoon, Georgia State became the third team in as many matches not to be able to score a goal on the Mississippi State soccer team.

Skylar Rosson recorded five saves as the Bulldogs won a 3-0 decision at the MSU soccer field.
