When a squad starts experiencing a little bit of success, the importance of games becomes bigger and bigger.

Bulldogs to fix mistakes

The Mississippi State Bulldogs collectively took a sigh of relief over the weekend after escaping Troy, Ala., with a 30-24 football win on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Bulldogs found out they were ranked 23rd nationally and they look to make corrections to the flaws which were exposed against the Troy Trojans.

SHS picks up division win

Starkville High School volleyball coach Lauren Love had a simple message for her team prior to Monday's afternoon match against Class 5A, Region 2 opponent Canton.

"Let's start from the beginning," Love told the Lady Yellowjackets at courtside before they assumed their positions.

It turned out that there wasn't much time from the beginning until the end of the match.

Teaching moments: Mullen to use Troy win as lesson for No. 23 Bulldogs

Mississippi State took the football field against the Trojans of Troy, Ala. and when the game was over, the Bulldogs left the field with a six-point win and a game film that would provide the teachable lessons coach Dan Mullen was looking for.

Georgia's attack too much for MSU volleyball

The Georgia Bulldogs went on the attack against Mississippi State in Southeastern Conference volleyball on Sunday.

There wasn't much the homestanding Bulldogs could do about it at Newell-Grissom Building as Georgia won a 3-1 decision.

Georgia was the aggressor by making good on a .303 hitting percentage, while Mississippi State's percentage dipped to .190 by the end of the match.

MSU topples Troy: Bulldogs escape with 30-24 win

TROY, Ala. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs passed their first road test of the season Saturday night.

Even though it was much tougher than expected, the Bulldogs did escape Troy with a 30-24 win to improve to 3-0 for the season for the first time since 1999.

SHS teams place second at hosted cross country meet

Kate Mattox may be young, but that hasn't stopped her from competing against high school runners on the various cross country courses around the state.

On Saturday, the 8th grader Mattox finished first with a time of 14:52 at the Mississippi Horse Park just outside of Starkville on the Mississippi State course.

Volunteers win big in conference play

The Starkville Academy Volunteers didn't leave many doubts early that they would be improving their record to 3-2 for the season.

Starkville Academy scored early and often as it crushed Hillcrest Christian Academy 42-0 to open conference play.

East Oktibbeha defeats Ethel

CRAWFORD – The East Oktibbeha High School Titans and the Ethel High School Tigers were teams fighting for their first win in the region this season.

The game was pivotal for the Titans, as this was the home opener of the 2012 football season. East Oktibbeha coach Randy Brooks talked with his players before the game to express the importance of this game.

East Webster back to its winning ways

MABEN – Deangelo Liggins rushed for 68 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns as the East Webster Wolverines got back on the winning track with a 35-0 victory against Walnut at home Friday night.

With the victory, the Wolverines improved their record to 4-1 this season.

Liggins had touchdown runs of 1 and 14 yards, while also tossing a 42-yard scoring pass to Tyler Doss.
