Starkville drops pair to Columbus

On Tuesday night, The Starkville High Yellowjackets were defeated by Columbus Falcons in overtime 70-62.

With the Jackets leading heading into the final moments, Jalen Stewart hit a last second shot to tie the game at 58 as time expired. Columbus would then take control of the extra period to come away with the win.

Caleb Wilson lead Starkville in scoring with 15 points.

Strong shooting keeps Lady Vols season perfect

The East Rankin Lady Patriots came to Starkville Academy on Tuesday, hoping to escape with an upset over one of the best teams in the state.

However, for coach Glenn Schmidt and the Lady Volunteers, it was business as usual and they defeated East Rankin 68-34 to remain unbeaten.

Cougars ground Flyers at home

Starkville Christian School boys basketball coach Alex Thompson does not take the play of senior Caleb Jordan for granted.

Even when he's not scoring, Jordan finds other ways to help the Cougars.

Jordan scored his only two points of the game with 7 minutes remaining in Tuesday's game against the Meridian Flyers, but he continued to hustle and encourage his SCS teammates down the stretch.

MSU preparing to face Arkansas

The Mississippi State men's basketball team has not had much success when getting in a track meet with other teams.

The Bulldogs are 0-6 for the season when opponents shoot 45 percent or better from the floor, but are 5-0 when they shoot 45 percent or better.

The Mississippi State men's basketball team's depth has been a challenge everyday.
It's especially going to show in practice this week.

MSU (7-9, 2-2) travels to Fayetteville, Ark. to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks (11-6, 2-2) on Wednesday.

SHS teams host playoff action

Temperatures might be colder in the Starkville area, but things are heating up on the soccer fields of Starkville High.

With regular season action complete, both Yellowjacket squads will enter playoff competition this week.
After going 6-5-3 overall and 3-1 in their division, the Lady Jackets will start things off with tonight's contest against Oxford.

Lady Jackets handle Lady Wave at home

The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets didn't have to go searching for a reason to bounce back after a tough loss on Friday night.

Not when West Point comes to town.

After the Lady Jackets were defeated by Canton in Class 5A, Region 2 action 61-35, they turned the situation around and handled the Lady Green Wave 64-50 on Saturday night at home.

SHS boys hold on for victory

It's easy to start a game out on a hot streak and take an early lead. It's another thing all together to finish strong and get the victory.

For the Starkville High School boys' basketball team, starting strong has been easy, but closing out has been the difficult part.

Having won five of their last six games, it seems things are starting to click for the Starkville Academy Volunteers.

On Saturday, the team demonstrated its chemistry as the Volunteers defeated the Raiders of Oak Hill Academy 56-37.

Starkville Christian wins tourney title

LOUISVILLE – The Starkville Christian School Cougars have played tournaments during the five-year history of the school and never came away as champions.
