BREAKING NEWS: MSU announces Mirando resigns

Mississippi State is gearing up for the 2012 football season and with 13 days remaining before the opening kickoff, the Bulldogs announced the resignation of Angelo Mirando.

Mirando, who served as the MSU receivers coach last season, indicated personal reasons was the cause for his departure from the program.

Mullen satisfied with Bulldogs in final scrimmage

The rains passed through the Starkville area on Saturday afternoon just in time for coach Dan Mullen and his Mississippi State Bulldogs to hold their final scrimmage of fall camp.

The end result was a satisfied head coach.

Softball win excites Lady Vols: Starkville Academy edges Washington

The Starkville Academy softball team had seen its share of losses this season, but Saturday they finally had something to celebrate.

The Lady Volunteers beat Washington School 5-4 in four innings in the 10th annual College Exposure Tournament at the Starkville Sportsplex for their first win.

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers are using any type of tournament situation to their advantage this softball season.

With two games played at the 10th annual College Exposure Tournament, Starkville Academy saw it as an opportunity to keep building for the future.

An early Saturday morning storm dumped a tremendous amount of rain upon the Starkville Sportsplex softball fields.

With the thought of how wet it was going to be to have a softball tournament, it was necessary to call tournament director Dan Moreland to see if the 10th annual Exposure Tournament was going to be played.

Starkville Academy shuts out St. Andrews

RIDGELAND – The Starkville Academy Volunteers got the season started off successfully Friday night with a 13-0 shutout against St. Andrews.

Starkville Academy didn't waste any time by scoring on its first possession of the game as quarterback Drew Pellum ran for a 6-yard touchdown. Jonathan Burton added to extra point kick for the Vols.

Tigers do swarming by beating Jackets to open the season

Starkville High School football coach Jamie Mitchell knew his team was going to have to score points to defeat the Noxubee County Tigers Friday night.

Eight was not enough.

The Yellowjackets were dominated on both sides of the football in their home stadium and lost a 29-8 decision to open the season.

Timberwolves turn up scoring in 66-6 victory

MABEN – Adam Lowrey took last week's 7-6 loss to East Webster in a jamboree pretty seriously.

So Monday he decided to change some things up.

It was evident it West Oktibbeha's 66-6 victory over S.V. Marshall Friday night at the West Oktibbeha High School football field.

East Webster beats Vardaman on road

VARDAMAN – The East Webster Wolverines scored four touchdowns on the ground and added a field goal to beat Vardaman 30-14 Friday night.

Deangelo Liggins scored from 28-yards out in the first quarter to make it 7-0. Tyler Crosby converted the point after touchdown.

Marques Reives scored from 8 yards out to make it 14-0 in the first quarter. Crosby, again, was good on the extra point.
