State record 10 years in making for Jordan

It was an accomplishment that's been 10 years in the making.

When Dakota Jordan bowled an 875 series at Bulldog Lanes last week, the total was good enough to set a state record.

Jordan, a student at Mississippi State, began bowling when he was 10-years-old. There were two bowling houses near his home in Perlington, close to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and another in Slidell, La.

Lady Jackets finish Class 5A, Region 2 with unbeaten volleyball mark

JACKSON – The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets locked up an undefeated regular season in Class 5A, Region 2 play and clinched a first-round home playoff game with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-13) victory at Jackson Callaway Tuesday night.

Starkville finished the regular season with records of 19-11 overall and 8-0 in the region. The Lady Jackets did not drop a set in region matches.

SA's All-Star trio: Gardner says Lady Vols important part of soccer program

The Starkville Academy girls soccer team had a strong senior class.

When the trio of Tiffany Huddleston, Tiffany Evans and Jessica Dennis were chosen to represent the Lady Volunteers in today's Mississippi Association of Independent Schools All-Star Game, it indicates the strong leadership that was available to coach Robert Gardner last season.

Liggins a team player for East Webster football team

When it comes to being a team player, Deangelo Liggins is the definition.

The sophomore for the East Webster Wolverines was selected as the starting quarterback this season. Liggins has played running back for most of his life.

Lady Wolverines sweep softball playoff series at home

MABEN – Kendall Wilkinson came to the plate in the seventh inning in a pressure-packed situation.

She delivered a 2-run double to stretch East Webster's lead to five and got three-up-three-down in the bottom half to give the Lady Wolverines a 13-8 win over Bay Springs.

Big on for the Dogs: MSU faces Tennessee Saturday in a huge game

Entering the season, there were analysts and fans alike that circled the Sept. 8 match up with Auburn as the first real test for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

However, as the football gods would have it, the first test for coach Dan Mullen’s Bulldogs will come this weekend when the high-flying offense of Tennessee comes to Starkville.

East Webster hosts Bay Springs in playoffs

When Lee Berryhill took the softball head coaching job at East Webster, he didn't know a whole lot about the program.

In his first season, he has his slowpitch squad into the Class 2A playoffs.

The Lady Wolverines (19-4) host Bay Springs today at 5 p.m. in a best 2-out-of-3 series. All games will be played today.

Ackerman is prepared for deep postseason run

The Ackerman High School volleyball team has played tough competition all season long.

Their schedule has set the Lady Indians up to be used to the type of teams they will play in the playoffs.

Ackerman (9-8) opens the playoffs at home today against Tishomingo County with the match scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Bulldogs look to keep a foot on gas pedal

Fresh off a 27-14 win over Kentucky the No. 19 Mississippi State Bulldogs are turning their attention to a talented group of Tennessee Volunteers who will be in Starkville on Saturday looking to ruin State’s perfect 5-0 start to the 2012 campaign.

While the Vols enter with a 3-2 record, MSU head coach Dan Mullen is fully aware of just how dangerous Tennessee can be.

Defensive effort applauded: EMCC's Stephens gives credit to unit for shutout victory

SCOOBA – The East Mississippi Community College defense deserved a round of applause, and head coach Buddy Stephens made sure that happened.
