Bulldogs set to play in initial road outing

Mississippi State enters its first hostile environment situation of the year this evening as the Bulldogs travel to Troy, Ala. for a 6 p.m. affair with the Trojans.

State enters the contest with a 2-0 record riding high after the 28-10 win over Auburn last Saturday, but the Bulldogs are aware of the history of BCS teams facing the Trojans.

Smith healthy, helping MSU on the o-line

If there is a picture of the walking wounded at Mississippi State, Tobias Smith could certainly make a case for it.

The Bulldog senior offensive guard has battle injury time and time again only to return to the field and lead his team.

He’s dealt with an injury to his right ankle, a year later his left ankle, and last season a knee injury sidelined the Columbus native.

Mistakes hurt Lady Vols in softball loss

The Starkville Academy fast pitch softball team have been plagued by errors all year.

It was no different Thursday when SA fell to Winston Academy 12-5 at Lady Volunteer Field. The junior varsity squad lost 10-5.

The Lady Volunteers are very young and only have one senior in pitcher Mary Austin Barber.

Junior Vols handle Junior Pats at home

The Starkville Academy junior varsity football team has come a long way since its beginning.

That was evident Thursday night.

The Volunteers beat Heritage Academy 42-0 to improve their record to 5-0 for the second year in a row.

Division play starts for SA with Hillcrest

Starkville Academy's first four football games of the season have been on and up and down scale.

The Volunteers get somewhat of a fresh start tonight as they begin division play against Hillcrest Christian. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Volunteers beat the Cougars 42-8 last season in Jackson.

Jackets hit reset button during open date

Starkville High School quarterback Gabe Myles was able to play well against West Point on a bad ankle.

The Yellowjackets are hoping that with this week's open date, Myles will be close to 100 percent for the first Class 5A, Region 2 game at Lanier on Sept. 21.

Eupora hosts Calhoun City, looks to remain undefeated

The Eupora High School football team looks to stay unbeaten when they play host to Calhoun City tonight.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Wafford Field.

The Wildcats (2-2) beat the Eagles last season 20-6. Calhoun City is coming off a 36-21 win at Velma Jackson last week.

SHS cross country runners host meet

September 13, 2012

The surroundings will be familiar for the Starkville High School cross country team on Saturday.

In their second run of the season, the Yellowjackets and Lady Jackets hit the path at the Mississippi Horse Park for home action.

SHS cross country coach Caroline Woomer was proud of how the team performed in the first race of the season and looks forward to hosting a home event.

McDonald helps MSU women to fourth-place finish in golf

WEST POINT – Mississippi State got a strong finish from Ally McDonald on Wednesday to finish fourth in the inaugural Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational.

The MSU sophomore carded a final round of 69 for a 4-under-par score of 212 which was good for a two-way tie for third place. The finish is a career low for McDonald and is the second lowest 54-hole score in MSU women’s golf history.

Banks, Green honored after MSU win

Two members of the Mississippi State football team picked up national honors on Wednesday, which is another indication that the Bulldogs are headed in a positive direction as a team this season.

MSU football coach Dan Mullen likes the identity that his team is beginning to develop after home wins over Jackson State 56-9 and Auburn 28-10.
