Jackets believe, jolt Jaguars

The belief that Starkville baseball coach Travis Garner has in Tyler Barnes is beginning to pay off.
After watching Barnes struggle at the plate during the early part of the season, Garner watched as the Yellowjacket continued to work hard to improve his offensive game.

Starkville tops Columbus

Division games, especially those that come against a rival, are not usually easy.
That was the case Tuesday for the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets against the Columbus Lady Falcons.
In the end, Starkville pulled through with strong team play to get the 10-9 victory over Columbus.

EMCC continues partnership with West Point

The partnership between the East Mississippi Community College rodeo program and the city of West Point has been a good thing over the last couple of years.

Bulldogs move on: MSU defeats USM in WNIT to advance

Jerica James was making basketball plays all over the court when the Mississippi State Bulldogs needed them the most against Southern Mississippi Monday night.
She started it on defense with a key block of Gillom Trophy winner Jamierra Faulkner of the Golden Eagles with 24 seconds remaining in the first overtime and the Bulldogs holding a slim 65-64 advantage.

Bulldogs get good idea about pitching rotation

Mississippi State may have settled on its pitching rotation for the rest of the Southeastern Conference slate.
The Bulldogs got three solid outings from their starting pitchers in a series win over Vanderbilt this past weekend.

Lady Yellowjackets pick up 16-15 victory

The Starkville High School softball team had a tough weekend, but picked up a hard fought 16-15 victory over Noxapater Monday evening.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the top of the first. 
With Shanele Johnson, Iyanna Clark and Alexis Poe coming across the plate Starkville chipped the lead to four at 7-3.

Ready for round two: MSU hosts USM in WNIT

The Women's National Invitational Tournament doesn't seed its teams when placed in the bracket.
If it did, Mississippi State women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer believes Southern Mississippi would have been one of the higher seeds of the event.
With a 27-6 overall record, the Golden Eagles have one of the better marks in the field and that has gotten Schaefer's attention.

NO QUIT IN CARTER: State junior guard helps team with a high motor

Savannah Carter has experienced success at each level of her basketball career.
After helping her Tulsa (Oklahoma) Memorial High School team to the state tournament for four seasons, Carter was a part of a NJCAA Division I national championship at Trinity Valley Community College.
Carter was signed by the women's coaching staff at Mississippi State to bring some of that winning to Starkville.

Fitts has good start In loss for Bulldogs

Mississippi State saw good outings from all three starters over the weekend. 
Trevor Fitts showed that Sunday and gave the Bulldogs their third quality start of the weekend, the first time MSU starters have done that since the 2011 Atlanta Regional.
