Starkville Academy boys defeat Washington School

Success was on the side of the Starkville Academy Volunteers Friday night.
In what some might not have called the prettiest game, the Volunteers defeated Washington School 43-31.
“I just thought it was ugly,” Starkville Academy coach Mark Alexander said. “It got to be an ugly game, a Helter Skelter game, and that sort of played a part in it.”

Richardson, Carroll produce during win for the Lady Vols

There's no doubting which two players are the heart and soul of the Starkville Academy girls basketball team this season.
Behind seniors Sallie Kate Richardson and Nora Kathryn Carroll, the Lady Volunteers have found much success.
Friday night was no different as the pair combined for 27 of Starkville Academy's point-production in a 52-32 victory over Washington School.

MSU looks to get right on road

Mississippi State has had its fair share of struggles on the road this season.
The Bulldogs have also lost two-straight Southeastern Conference games for the first time this season.
They look to overcome recent losses today in Nashville, Tenn. against the Vanderbilt Commodores (11-8, 3-4). Tipoff is set for 4:05 p.m. and can be seen on Fox Sports Net.

Bulldogs good, but not enough against Gators

The Mississippi State Bulldogs threw everything they had at No. 3 Florida.
In the end, it wasn't good enough.
The Bulldogs played inspired basketball, but dropped a 62-51 decision to the Gators Thursday night inside Humphrey Coliseum.

MSU only scores 51, gives up 62

The Mississippi State Bulldogs were very good on defense against the third-ranked Florida Gators on Thursday night, but they failed to produce on offense.
During the 62-51 loss to Florida, the points scored by MSU was a season-low.
An inability to get to the free-throw line was partly to blame for the lack points for the Bulldogs. They were only 1-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Lady Jackets win easily at home

Thursday was all about defense for the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets.
In convincing fashion, Starkville defeated Aberdeen 53-15.
“Once we got started, we were able to keep up our intensity on the defensive side,” Lady Jackets coach Kristie Williams said. “That is what we have been enforcing in practice because we are at the last stretch of our regular season.”

Dawkins becomes factor for SHS

Junior Tyler Dawkins is becoming more and more of a factor for the Starkville High School bowling team.
In the mind of SHS bowling coach Jim Philamlee, Dawkins is a good example of what can happen for an individual who takes advantage of every available opportunity to improve.

The Mississippi State head coach saw his team drop an 82-47 decision in Starkville and an 83-58 game in Gainesville, Fla.

State women on road to take on No. 14 LSU

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are facing another top 15 team in Southeastern Conference women's basketball competition tonight.
As far as MSU coach Vic Schaefer is concerned, it doesn't matter who the next opponent is. He just wants the Bulldogs to keep competing.

SA girls lose at Madison Ridgeland Academy

MADISON – Madison Ridgeland Academy has a strong second-half comeback on Wednesday night as it defeated Starkville Academy 48-35 at home in high school girls basketball action.
After taking a 10-8 lead and stretching the margin to 20-15 at halftime, the Lady Volunteers were outscored by MRA 17-7 in the third quarter and 16-8 in the fourth.
