Bench boosts Bulldogs in win

Mississippi State has leaned on Craig Sword and Gavin Ware many times this season.
On Wednesday, that wasn’t the case.
Sword and Ware combined for just 10 points, but the Bulldogs held on to beat Auburn 82-74 inside Humphrey Coliseum.
“(This was) really a good win for our program and our team,” MSU head coach Rick Ray said. “I was happy with the way our guys handled some adversity.”

State mixes, matches at point guard position

Mississippi State has had to mix and match at the point guard position the last two games.
True freshman point guard I.J. Ready has been sidelined the last two games with a concussion he suffered last Wednesday night against Alabama.
He missed Saturday’s win against Texas A&M and an 82-74 victory over Auburn on Wednesday night.

MSU, Ole Miss women set to meet in Oxford

Ole Miss point guard Valencia McFarland has been a thorn in the side of the Mississippi State Bulldogs for the last couple of seasons.
The Bulldogs meet McFarland and the Rebels once again in Oxford tonight.
Even though Ole Miss has yet to win a Southeastern Conference game in five tries, MSU coach Vic Schaefer said McFarland makes it a very dangerous opponent.

Carroll's career: SA senior embraces leadership role

Mississippi State head coach Rick Ray was impressed with his team’s offensive effort against Texas A&M last Saturday.
He wants to see a good defensive effort tonight
The Bulldogs (12-5, 2-2) host the Auburn Tigers (8-7, 0-4) at Humphrey Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN3.

MSU teams look to be consistent

It seems that Mississippi State basketball coaches Rick Ray and Vic Schaefer are looking for the same things these days.
As both men continue to build their programs in their second year on the job, they are looking to get that consistency on a day-to-day basis from the Bulldogs.
The men have followed a pattern of lose, win, lose, win since beginning the Southeastern Conference schedule.

MSU allows Flanigan to stay around game

Growing up the son of a high school coach, the sport was always present and as the Mississippi State University assistant coach, he knew he wanted to make sure it stayed that way.

Foster's focus: MSU senior helps team on or off court

There are games where senior Candace Foster gets more minutes than others for the Mississippi State women's basketball team.
The one constant for Foster is the support she gives the Bulldogs on and off the court.
MSU coach Vic Schaefer said Foster is a valuable member of the team and does things to contribute that many do not see.

Starkville Academy girls pick up 20th win of season

January 22, 2014

SENATOBIA – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers won their 20th game of the season by defeating Magnolia Heights School 51-13 on Tuesday night.
Starkville Academy took control of the game early and led 16-2 after the first quarter. The Lady Vols expanded the margin to 26-6 by halftime.

SHS girls pick up soccer win

January 22, 2014

COLUMBUS – The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets picked up a Class 6A, Region 3 soccer victory on the road Tuesday by defeating Columbus 7-0.
Lexi Turner got the scoring started for Starkville and added another goal in the first half. Cailee Helen McClain had four goals and Anna Nicole Underwood had the other score in the second half.
