Strong defensive game lifts Lady Yellowjackets

The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets made a statement early in their game with the Madison Central Lady Jaguars Friday night that they had come to play defense.
Starkville did not allow Madison Central to score a field goal in the first quarter.

Bulldogs ready to face Rebels in round two of rivalry in Oxford

Mississippi State’s first meet with in-state rival Ole Miss fell in the Bulldogs’ favor.
The Bulldogs beat the Ole Miss Rebels 76-72 two weeks ago inside Humphrey Coliseum.
Repeating that result will be a challenge for MSU today.

Choctaw County hosts Challenge

Good players, good rivalries and good competition will all be a part of the Mid-Mississippi Challenge at Choctaw County High School.

SA girls hold off Winston

LOUISVILLE – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers held off a furious comeback in the fourth period by Winston Patriots to win 47-44.
The Lady Volunteers started strong taking an early 18-11 advantage after the first period. The second period was more of a defensive game as both combined to only score 16 points. Starkville Academy took a 29-16 lead going into the half.

Hardin of SHS to take skills to ICC

Starkville High School soccer player Noa Katherine Hardin could be labeled as an "Energizer Bunny" by some people, but her coached prefers to call her "firecracker."
Hardin has provided the Lady Yellowjackets an aggressive style of play for four years.
SHS girls soccer coach Anna Albritton said it didn't matter where she chose to play Hardin on the field because she always performed.

Jackets to host North 6A event

It can be a huge advantage to be able to host a tournament in the postseason.
The Starkville Yellowjackets have the opportunity to do that at the end of February.
In an announcement by the Mississippi High School Activities Association on Thursday, SHS was awarded a host site for the Class 6A North State Tournament.

Bulldog women don't hit boards, lose to rival Rebels

OXFORD – Ole Miss got eight more offensive rebounds that Mississippi State did Thursday night.
The 19th was the biggest of the night.
Ole Miss’ Kenyotta Jenkins put back a miss with 0.8 seconds left in overtime that proved to be the game-winner as the Bulldogs fell 87-85 at Tad Smith Coliseum.
“As I told my team, in hindsight that one’s on me,” MSU head coach Vic Schaefer said.

SHS honors 2013 football team at banquet

It was about celebrating the present and looking forward to the future on Wednesday night during the Starkville High School football banquet.
The Yellowjackets were recognized by the coaching staff and several awards were given out during the event held at the Travis Outlaw Center at the Starkville Sportsplex.

SHS sharpens bowling skill with Neshoba match

The Starkville High School bowling team took to the lanes and a tough opponent was there to meet it it in the Neshoba Central Rockets.
It was another challenge to help get the Yellowjackets in shape for the postseason.
