JACKSON – Behind the 75 carded by Alex Bedwell, the Starkville Academy Volunteers shot a 319 at the Jackson Country Club Tuesday afternoon, which was good enough to finish third in AAA South State and qualified them for the State tournament.

Starkville High School boys golf coach Sam Bryant has seen the potential that the individual players have on his team.
Bryant hopes that all five of the Yellowjackets shoot low rounds at the same time the next couple of days at the Class 5A State Tournament being held at the University of Mississippi Golf Course in Oxford.

Over two weeks ago, America was rocked with the news of the tragedy that struck Boston.
The bombings at the Boston Marathon on Patriots' Day, Monday, April 15, killed three people and injured 264.
The tragedy brought out the best in people.
Mississippi State had an idea to show its support for the victims and heroes of the Boston Marathon bombings.
The Mississippi State women's golf team hadn't sniffed the postseason in nearly six years.
Monday night that all changed.
The Lady Bulldogs gathered at Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the NCAA Selection Show. At just after 8 p.m. they saw their name come up and a loud roar was heard inside the restaurant.
It didn't take Starkville Academy baseball coach Neal Henry long to figure out three years ago that he had a 9th grader who could play the game pretty well.
A young Hunter Bolin stepped up to the plate and got two doubles against a pitcher that was throwing in the 90-mile per hour range and that caught Henry's attention.
Starkville High had planned on having a few more days to prepare for its game against Oxford, but Mother Nature and the board of education had other things in mind.
With potential threats looming, the two teams made the decision to move their portion of the second round of playoffs up.

The Starkville Academy Volunteers shouldn't be overwhelmed by the big stage as the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA postseason begins today.
A group of experienced Vols make the trip to Greenville to take on the Washington School Generals in game one of the best-of-three series beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Another season of Starkville Christian School softball came to a close on Monday afternoon and thus the final game for three Lady Cougars.
Rachel Bowman, Katie Carr and Kera Young were recognized prior to the final game against Central Academy at the Starkville Sportsplex.

The Starkville High School track team is caught right in the middle of the postseason experience.
After competing at Class 5A regional competition over the weekend, the Yellowjackets are set for this week's competition in the Class 5A North meet in Oxford.

Through three innings on Sunday, it appeared the Mississippi State Bulldogs would prevent a sweep in their final home Southeastern Conference softball series of the season.
The Bulldogs had gained a 3-2 lead and pitcher Stephanie Becker had pitched two shutout innings against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
