Tennis tournament benefits future MSU students from county

Some lucky Oktibbeha County students headed to Mississippi State University will have their pockets a little heavier thanks to the local alumni chapter.
Beginning on Friday, the Oktibbeha County Alumni Chapter held its fourth annual tennis tournament, which serves to raise scholarship funds for area students.

Carter exposes Jackets to camp opportunities

Greg Carter has presented his Starkville Yellowjackets with several different looks with the basketball this summer.
Whether it's team camp or the one-day shootout at Mississippi State, the Itawamba Community College camp, the New Hope camp for three days, the West Point camp or their own camp, the Jackets have not lacked for opportunities to improve and get better.

Evan Mitchell opts to leave Bulldogs

Evan Mitchell will not be returning to Starkville for his senior season.
The Mississippi State junior right hander tweeted Sunday morning that he was going to forgo his last season with the Bulldogs and sign with the Cincinnati Reds.

Starkville 9's finish second in State

WINONA - Sunday was the culmination of a long weekend of games for the 9-year-old Starkville All-Star team.
After battling for seven games, the team finished the Dizzy Dean State tournament as the second-place team.

SHS to improve athletic surfaces

The history of sports at Starkville High is one of prestige and soon the facilities will match that level.
Over the past few weeks, the school board at Starkville has been meeting to discuss upcoming plans for the school and its facilities.
“Dr. Lewis Holloway did a great job with building the strategic plan,” SHS athletic director Dr. Stan Miller said.

In a season full of records, Mississippi State fans set their own record.
The 2013 MSU baseball season saw a total of 308,967 in paid attendance in 38 home games at Dudy Noble Field and a total attendance of 547,266.
This year's paid attendance set a school record and was second nationally. The total attendance also set a school record.

Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin made a declaration at the close of his remarks Thursday night at the Bulldog baseball celebration at Dudy Noble Field.
"We are back."
Even though the marketing department beat him to the punch earlier in the year when they used that slogan on the 2013 schedule poster, Stricklin realized that those responsible turned out to be prophets.

Local taekwondo club hosts event in black belt

David and Caryn Dampier have seen the love for taekwondo come full circle in Starkville.
Beginning Friday night, the First United Methodist Church’s Christian Life Center was the site of the Naval Postgraduate School Taekwondo Association’s black belt certifications.

Davis Wade expansion: Facelift at MSU's home moving forward

The 2013 college football season is just around the corner and Mississippi State Bulldog fans will have a different view of Davis Wade Stadium this fall.
MSU's venue for home games is in the midst of a $75 million expansion and renovation project that will increase the capacity from 55,082 to 61,337. 

Lee answers call, returns to Bulldogs

Former Mississippi State quarterback Tyson Lee is back on campus.
After serving as a scouting assistant for the St. Louis Rams, Lee felt the call to return to the Golden Triangle area and help the Bulldogs in some way.
Lee has been serving MSU and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a field associate for the past month.
