Starkville Academy loses home decision

It wasn't the type of start the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers were looking for on the softball field Thursday afternoon.
Plagued by errors, the Lady Vols ultimately dropped a 12-2 decision to the Heritage Academy Lady Patriots.

Positions not settled: Hevesy wants to see MSU offensive linemen compete every day for play

Offensive line positions for the Mississippi State Bulldogs are still up for grabs according to offensive line coach John Hevesy, but there are a number of players that could seeing playing time in 2013.
There are several players who are going to get definite playing time this year starting with senior left guard Gabe Jackson.

When Justin Malone arrived at Mississippi State, the offensive line's time together ended when the pads were taken off.
The sophomore right guard has seen things turn around for the Bulldog offensive line. They have gelled on and off the field.

The first day of practice can be quite overwhelming for a newcomer.
When it comes to the sport of soccer, the transition can be easier to make than others.
It's still just about getting in the right position and getting the soccer ball in the goal at any level.

East Webster ready to get back on softball field

The East Webster Lady Wolverines haven't had long to enjoy their Class 2A State fast-pitch championship.
Not when they captured the title in May and three months later the Lady Wolverines have to get ready for the slow-pitch season.
It doesn't matter to East Webster softball coach Lee Berryhill, who keeps the same thinking whatever the season brings.

One word stands out to Starkville High coach Jamie Mitchell as his football team begins practicing for the 2013 season and that word is dynasty.
Coming off a state championship season, Mitchell says the team is well aware this is a new year and anything can happen, but what they also know is winning and you can bet expectations are high.

Mullen, Bulldogs dodge rain

Dan Mullen considers himself a "rainmaker."
The Mississippi State head football coach has seen nothing but rain this week while out at practice. 
The Bulldogs moved over to the farm Monday, where things start to get serious. The first two days there have seen nothing but rain. MSU has been forced inside both days.

Johnny Manziel has shown an ability to escape out of some pretty tough situations on the field as the quarterback of the Texas A&M Aggies.
What's facing him now is much more difficult than trying to get away from a defensive lineman or linebacker.

SHS archery coaches prepare for the newest sport

Archery is on the way for Starkville High School.
The newest sport for the Yellowjackets will begin in February of 2014 and the preparation continues for the season.
Coaches Michael Pope and Michelle Guyton are getting everything in order for high school competition.

Starkville High School athletic director Stan Miller knew about Jamie Mitchell's reputation as a good football coach prior to hiring him to lead the Yellowjackets.
