Yellowjackets host meet at Sanderson

September 18, 2013

The Starkville High School swim team is excited about the opportunity to host a swim meet today.
At approxmiately 4:15 p.m. at the Sanderson Center on the campus of Mississippi State, the Yellowjackets welcome six other swim teams in for competition.
Tupelo, West Point, Mississippi School of Math and Science, Tupelo Christian Prep, Ripley and Amory will join Starkville in the pool.

Steele opts not to play for Bulldogs

Jalen Steele will not play his senior year with the Mississippi State basketball team the school announced Tuesday.
The senior has endured several injuries in his Bulldog career. The school's release said the Knoxville, Tenn., native will focus on graduating in the spring.

Johnston embraces role as SHS leader

There are certain defensive players that fit the label as the quarterback of that side of the football.
For the Starkville Yellowjackets, linebacker Taylor Johnston fits that description.
Johnston has filled that role well for the Jackets during the last three seasons.

Harrell wants to be best player he can be for Vols

He may lead the Starkville Academy Volunteers in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks, but it is not the individual statistics that stand out to Drew Harrell.

Mullen wants consistency out of MSU defense

Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen would like to see a little more consistency out of his defense.
The Bulldogs played great in spurts against Auburn last Saturday, but at times broke down.
The Tigers scored on a 76-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Quan Bray was wide open after cornerback Justin Cox got tangled up.

SEC victories very precious, MSU lost one

The Mississippi State defense forced three turnovers against Auburn last Saturday.
That's good.
The Bulldogs did not have a turnover offensively.
That's great.
MSU lost to Auburn 24-20 to open the Southeastern Conference schedule and fell to 1-2 overall.
That's bad.

SHS beats Heritage in three sets

The last time Starkville High faced Heritage Academy in volleyball, the Lady Patriots walked away with the win.
This time things were different as the Lady Yellowjackets defeated Heritage Academy in three-straight sets 25-19, 25-17 and 25-9.

Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen doesn't like to lose.
After Saturday's 24-20 loss to the Auburn Tigers, he was upset.
His players were also upset.

Lady Vols swing bats for victory

September 16, 2013

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers provided a day at the plate that coach Kayla Mosley has wanted to see this season.
With 15 hits to their credit, the Lady Vols produced enough offense to take a 14-4 victory in five innings against Jackson Academy at home.
Mosley was happy to see the hitting up and down the lineup.
