SA girls win at Pillow for first time

GREENWOOD – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers have played well all season long, but they were still able to achieve another first on Friday night.

For the first time in school history, the Starkville Academy girls were able to win a basketball game at Pillow Academy.

Lady Jackets have tough time at Canton with loss

CANTON – The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets fell behind their host early and couldn't recover in losing a 61-35 decision to Canton Friday night.

Starkville, which fell to 8-5 overall and 2-1 in Class 5A, Region 2, was on the wrong side of a 14-6 score after the first quarter. The Lady Jackets trailed 29-12 at halftime.

Bulldogs go back on road

There is very little down time when the Southeastern Conference basketball portion of the schedule tips off.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs find that out today as they start a two-game road trip.

The Bulldogs (7-8, 2-1) travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to take on the Tennessee Volunteers (8-7, 0-3). Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and can be seen on the SEC Network and locally on WCBI.

MSU ready to build on last season

The Mississippi State softball program experienced the winningest April in school history last spring.

That run helped the Bulldogs springboard into the postseason and head coach Vann Stuedeman became one of only two first-year head coaches to take her team to the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Tough time with Tide: Dark night for MSU with loss to Alabama

The night started out dark inside Humphrey Coliseum and ended even darker on Mississippi State's chance of going 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference.

The Bulldogs (7-8, 2-1) fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide (10-6, 2-1) 75-43 Wednesday night.

MSU women challenge No. 5 Kentucky

The fifth-ranked Kentucky Lady Wildcats are developing it this season and the Mississippi State Bulldogs know that's what it is going to take to be successful in the Southeastern Conference.

Kentucky head coach Matthew Mitchell is happy that his team has been able to follow up last season's SEC regular season championship and continue to win games.

One can bet that the Mississippi State Bulldogs are glad that McPhee chose football. Pahokee (Fla.) High School, Itawamba Community College and Baltimore Ravens can be pleased as well.

Lady Vols improve mark to 24-0

JACKSON – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers didn't waste any time getting a lead on Hillcrest Christian School Tuesday night and went on to defeat their hosts 67-30.

Starkville Academy, which improved to 24-0, jumped out to a 19-2 advantage and increased the margin to 39-16 at halftime.

Lady Titans leave home court as winners

CRAWFORD – Outside the East Oktibbeha gym Tuesday night things were cold and dreary, but on the inside, senior night featured bright smiles and hot-scoring.

The careers of Quanisha Doss, Chansity Evans, Chaurieal Jenkins, Savannah Blair, Jessica Reed and Lydia Stevenson were celebrated and the Lady Titans seniors were sent out with a 78-61 victory over French Camp Academy.
