MSU plays Auburn in 'big game'

One of Dan Mullen's biggest wins as the Mississippi State head coach came last year against Auburn.
Today, Mullen's Bulldogs (1-1) face off against the Tigers in Auburn (2-0) at Jordan-Hare Stadium in the first Southeastern Conference game for both teams. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN2.

Resilient Yellowjackets: SHS comes up with huge plays in 34-14 victory

Starkville High School football coach Jamie Mitchell knows how important Darius Grayer is to his football team.
When Grayer was injured and wasn't able to be a factor during last week's game at West Point, Mitchell missed him.
Grayer, still not at 100 percent, was involved in a key moment of Friday's 34-14 victory by the Yellowjackets against the Southaven Chargers.

Volunteers respond in important outing

Coach Jeff Terrill said Friday’s game against Hillcrest Christian was probably the most important contest thus far in the season.
The Starkville Academy Volunteers took that to heart as they defeated the Cougars 49-8.

East Webster rallies to beat Houston on road

HOUSTON – Coach Doug Wilson knows the East Webster Wolverines have a tough division schedule lying ahead. That is why the coach feels “fortunate” his team has already faced some strong competition and now stands at 4-0.
The Wolverines defeated the Houston Hilltoppers on the road 21-13 Friday night.

MSU volleyball begins Bulldog Invite with two wins

Kimmy Gardiner may be young and inexperienced, but that hasn't stopped her from making a huge impact at Mississippi State.
The Bulldog freshman opposite hitter recorded her fifth-straight double-double Friday afternoon as MSU went on to a 3-0 sweep of Niagara in the first match of the Bulldog Invitational at the Newell-Grissom Building.

Starkville High School head football coach Jamie Mitchell is a man on a mission.
Frustrated by the way the Yellowjackets have played the last two weeks, Mitchell is determined to find out what the problems are and fix those.
The inability to stop offenses the last two weeks has Mitchell the most concerned.

Games are starting to count for the Starkville Academy Volunteers.
The team will take the field tonight for its first Division II game which coach Jeff Terrill says “carries more weight” than previous games.

Oktibbeha County schools open season on the road

The county schools from Oktibbeha County start getting in on the football fun tonight.
After having the first three weeks off, the West Oktibbeha Timberwolves and East Oktibbeha Titans will be taking the field for the first time this season. Both are on the road.

Hebron gets win on road over Calvary

MERIDIAN – The Hebron Christian Eagles got a very good outing from their running game and the defense earned its first shutout of the season in getting a 46-0 road victory over Calvary Christian Thursday night.

Starkville's 8th graders get victory

The Starkville 8th grade football team was looking for a big play in the closing minute of Thursday afternoon's game against Tupelo at home.
With the score tied at 6-6 and overtime a possibility, Starkville had the football on the 46-yard line.
That's when Jacket 8th grade coach Steve Denson pulled a play out of the book that's seldom used to get in a position to score.
