MSU hosts exhibition match

The Mississippi State Bulldogs didn't take it easy on themselves in finding an opponent to open the 2013 soccer season.
Even though its an exhibition game, MSU coach Aaron Gordon went out to find the best competition possible.
He believes South Florida out of the Big East Conference fits that idea. The Bulldogs challenge the Bulls tonight at home.

Volunteers are ready for 'dress rehearsal'

There's a certain advantage high school coaches get if they can get their teams into a preseason jamboree.
Before the Starkville Academy Volunteers open the season at Lamar School next week, they will take part in a jamboree today at Jackson Academy. It allows Starkville Academy the opportunity for a preseason warm-up and to knock any rust off while getting a game type feel.

Eupora hosts jamboree action

EUPORA – There is a certain excitement that exists on Friday nights during high school football season.
While it may not be time to officially kick off the season, jamborees give fans just a taste of what's to come.
Eupora is one of those schools as tonight they will take to the gridiron for the first time other than practice to host Meet the Eagles and a jamboree.

These days when you think Mississippi State football, you think about Tyler Russell.
The senior quarterback will be starting his second year as the starter under center.
Last season the Meridian native broke many school records, so unlike many other positions, quarterback is decided.

Eupora ready to host tournament

EUPORA - It's a tough way to begin the season for the Eupora Lady Eagles.
After getting some experience at last weekend's jamboree in Neshoba County, the Lady Eagles host the Eupora Classic tournament.
The field also features six teams including Grenada, New Hope, Bruce, East Webster and Calhoun City.

The heart of practice: MSU's Mullen sees players are anxious

Mississippi State is in the heart of preseason practice.
The Bulldogs have been on the practice fields since Aug. 1. The first few practices were light and were more of revamp for the older guys and a transition for the younger guys.
Summer school is over and the fall semester is close to getting started. 
Coach Dan Mullen's squad is right in the thick of things as two-a-days have hit.

SMITH COLUMN: Russell ready for next step with Bulldogs

Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen talked about quarterback Tyler Russell entering the "graduate level" phase of his career at Tuesday's media day.
Russell has experienced just about everything a signal caller can for the Bulldogs.
There have been some ups and downs for the Meridian native, but he seems to be a confident player as the season approaches.

Sometimes the path for athletes when they graduate from Mississippi State leads them right back to the Bulldogs.
John Cohen played baseball at Mississippi State, and now he is the head man on the diamond.
Rocky Felker quarterbacked the football team. He returned as a head coach of the Bulldogs in the 1980s and is still on the football staff to this day.

No pain, no gain for MSU runners

The athletes who make up the cross country team at Mississippi State understand up front that if there is no pain, there is no gain.
