Renfroe, Padres reach deal

Hunter Renfroe's window of opportunity opened big time following a stellar junior season at Mississippi State.
The right fielder was taken with the 13th overall pick by the San Diego Padres in last month's First-Year Player draft.
It has been nearly a month since he was drafted, but no deal had been struck during that time until this week.

Picture a baseball field full of cheers, a sky full of fireworks and boys with trophies in hand and that was exactly the scene Tuesday at McKee Park.
After defeating Mathiston 11-6, the Starkville American 8-year-old All-Stars captured the Dizzy Dean South State Championship.

The Mathiston Mad Dawgs may not have walked away with the first-place trophy at the 8-year-old Dizzy Dean South State Tournament, but gained respect from all who watched them play.
After losing a tough 3-2 decision to the Starkville Americans on Sunday, the Mad Dawgs battled their way back to the championship game and earned a rematch.

On Tuesday, the team took the field against Louisville in an effort to play its way back into the Dizzy Dean State championship game, but was unsuccessful as it lost 15-3.

WINONA – It was a long day of Dizzy Dean competition on Monday for the Starkville 10-year-old All-Stars. After a rain delay in game one, the team did not see action end until around 10 p.m.
In game one, the team defeated Winona 27-11 and it would seem Starkville was on its way to breaking out of the loser’s bracket and into the championship series, but it just was not meant to be.
