Porter's patience pays off for MSU

OMAHA, Neb. – Trey Porter may have been the last person Mississippi State fans might think could deliver in the clutch on college baseball's biggest stage.
The senior Bulldog hasn't seen a ton of action this postseason. Porter has taken just eight at-bats in 12 postseason games this year.
Before Monday night's game against Indiana, Porter had just one hit and one RBI.

Focus on Sportsplex: USSSA 11 State comes to Starkville

The United States Specialty Sports Association will have part of its focus on Starkville this week.
Beginning Thursday, the Starkville Sportsplex will host the USSSA 11-year old A, AA, AAA and Major Mississippi State championships baseball tournament. Teams from all across Mississippi will begin later this week with action running through Sunday.

There is always baseball news coming out of this town, but lately, it has really started to pick up.
For Starkville as it's sure to be in other communities, baseball doesn't end when the schools get out for summer vacation.

SPRD staff gets facility set for tournament

The fields at the Starkville Sportsplex are ready for the demand that over 50 youth United States Speciality Sports Association baseball teams will present this week.
With the USSSA State Tournament taking place, Starkville Park and Recreation direction Herman Peters said his staff has already been at work trying to get the facilities in as good a shape as possible.

Trey Porter productive: Senior delivers for MSU win

OMAHA, Neb. – Trey Porter hasn't been a big part of the Mississippi State offense in the last few weeks.
That all changed Monday night.
The senior singled to right field in the eighth inning to drive home two runs as the No. 7 Bulldogs beat the No. 8 Indiana Hoosiers 5-4 at TD Ameritrade in the College World Series.

Pirtle keeps finding base for Bulldogs

OMAHA, Neb. – Brett Pirtle somehow finds a way to reach base safely in just about every Mississippi State game.
The junior second baseman reached on a fielder's choice in the first inning in a 5-4 Bulldog victory over Indiana Monday night at the TD Ameritrade in the College World Series.
With the fielder's choice, the Tyler, Texas native has reached base safely in his last 41 games.

Alexander looks to answer SA's questions in summer

Questions abound for the Starkville Academy boys basketball team.
Coach Mark Alexander knows there are some major holes to fill, but his Volunteers are using the summer to try and find answers before they take the court in the fall.

SHS hosts 7-on-7 action once again

The high school football programs of Starkville, West Point, Columbus, Noxubee County and West Lowndes want to take advantage of every opportunity to improve and be successful.
This is the third year for Starkville 7-on-7 Football League and it's a tool to help the teams participating meet its goals for the fall.

OMAHA, Neb. – Mississippi State has proven all postseason they can get into the winner's bracket and stay there.
Today the No. 7 (Collegiate Baseball) Bulldogs will try to do the same thing they did in the Southeastern Conference Tournament and the Starkville Regional.

WAIT COLUMN: The time off should help the Bulldogs

The College World Series format sets up perfectly for Mississippi State.
After beating Oregon State 5-4 on Saturday, the Bulldogs don't play again until today against Indiana a 7 p.m. 
The fact that MSU will play ever other day, really helps its cause.
