MSU gets 1,000th Dudy Noble win

There has been a good bit of documented history surrounding the Mississippi State baseball program.

On Saturday, it encountered another milestone.

The No. 13 (Collegiate Baseball) Mississippi State Bulldogs held off the Portland Pilots 2-1 for MSU's 1,000th win at Dudy Noble Field.

MSU looks for basketball win at LSU

It has been a rough past few weeks for the Mississippi State men's basketball team.

The Bulldogs have lost nine-straight games after opening up 2-0 in Southeastern Conference play.

MSU head coach Rick Ray wants his team to finish strong, but he knows to do that it has to find a way to stay in the game early.

Bulldogs get offense going in the opener

It was unclear going into the season if the offense was going to be one of the strong points for the Mississippi State baseball team coming into the 2013 season.

On Friday, the question was answered in a positive way for at least the opener.

Stratton throws out first pitch at MSU game

Chris Stratton found himself in a familiar position Friday afternoon.

The Tupelo native was standing on the mound at Dudy Noble Field to throw a pitch.

With his career with the Mississippi State Bulldogs complete, one toss was all he got Friday as he threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the series opener against University of Portland.

Lady Vols reach tourney finals

JACKSON – Starkville Academy’s girls are one step away from being Class AAA, Division II State champions after defeating Hillcrest Christian in the semifinals 79-37 on Friday.

“We had a good one,” Starkville Academy coach Glenn Schmidt said. “It was a huge team effort. We had five players in double figures and two with double rebounds. Everybody really came together and we pulled it off.”

SHS girls drop 58-51 decision to Canton

CANTON – It wasn't the type of start that the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets were looking for, but the finish was more to their liking.

Even though the Lady Jackets lost a 58-51 decision to homestanding Canton in the finals of the Class 5A, Region 3 Tournament, they came back to make a run, only to see it fall a bit short.

Eupora girls win game in OT

MADISON – Following a closely fought contest that extended into overtime the Eupora Lady Eagles ended Friday evening victorious over Madison St. Joseph's 56-53.

The wait comes to an end this afternoon as the No. 13 (Collegiate Baseball) Bulldogs open the 2013 season this weekend with a four-game series against West Coast Conference foe the Portland Pilots.

Rea becomes more complete player for MSU

Mississippi State redshirt sophomore Wes Rea can be an intimidating presence in the batter's box.

When looking at his 6-5, 272-pound frame, one might think Rea is all about hitting the baseball out of the park.

Senior pitcher Kendall Graveman said there's more to Rea than power.

Second half sinks MSU in loss

OXFORD – It was night and day from the first half to the second half for the Mississippi State women's basketball team Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (11-13, 3-8) fell prey to a second half comeback by the Ole Miss Rebels (9-15, 2-9), as the Rebels earned a 65-51 victory inside Tad Smith Coliseum on Valentine's Day.
