Lady Vols advance in Overall bracket

CLINTON – The path to a third-consecutive State tournament championship this season continues for the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers.

The Lady Vols scored their 41st victory of the season as they defeated the Lady Spartans from Prairie View Academy 71-29.

Woodruff works in MSU win

Brandon Woodruff is still working toward the weekend at Mississippi State.

After Wednesday's four-inning pitching performance during a 17-5 victory by the Bulldogs over Rhode Island at Dudy Noble Field, the Wheeler native realized there's more improvement that must be made.

Bulldogs to recognize Gaynor: Lone senior plays final game at Humphrey Coliseum

Darriel Gaynor has been thinking quite a bit about life this week.

Mississippi State has been a big part of her life for the past three years.

As the only senior player for the MSU women's basketball team, Gaynor will be recognized during the final home game of the season tonight against Georgia. The battle of the Bulldogs tips off at 7 p.m.

Those are three simple words that describe Starkville Academy’s goal for the 2012-2013 season.

The Lady Volunteers begin the journey toward that status today as they face Prairie View in a 3 p.m.
matchup at Mississippi College.

As game time nears, enthusiasm is sweeping throughout the Starkville Academy team and its coach.

MSU rocks Rhode Island

The Mississippi State baseball team was coming off a big weekend in which they collected four wins.
Keeping focus for a midweek game after that type of weekend is usually a concern.

The No. 9 (Collegiate Baseball) Bulldogs answered those concerns with seven-straight hits in the bottom of the first on their way to a 13-2 win over Rhode Island Tuesday night at Dudy Noble Field.

SHS falls to Columbus 9-5

It wasn't quite the formula for success that the Starkville Yellowjackets were looking for against the Columbus Falcons Tuesday night.

Columbus kept expanding a lead on Starkville with eight runs in the first four innings and went on to win a 9-5 decision at Yellowjacket Stadium.

It was the first loss of the season for SHS under Brian Jones, who saw his team fall to 2-1.

Bulldogs to visit Wildcats at Rupp

Mississippi State and Kentucky have played some good basketball games in the last few years.

There has usually been a championship or a berth into the NCAA Tournament on the line.

This time around Kentucky is the only one looking at this game as one step closer to the postseason.

MSU's defense suffers when offense lacking

The Mississippi State men's basketball team had a glimmer of hope heading into last Saturday's home game against Vanderbilt.

The Bulldogs (7-19, 2-12) were in the game late against Alabama last Wednesday, but ended up dropping a 64-56 decision.

MSU played well down the stretch and Bulldog head coach Rick Ray was hoping it was going to carry over when the Bulldogs hosted the Commodores.

MSU's Owen picks up SEC recognition

Alison Owen has been waiting a long time to get back into the circle.

The Mississippi State redshirt junior has made quite an impact so far in 2013 for the Bulldog softball team.

It was proved to be true for Owen again last weekend and she got attention for it on Monday.

Owen was selected as the Southeastern Conference Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week.
