January 28th
The Mississippi State men's basketball team is trying to get back on the right track.
The Bulldogs started the Southeastern Conference season 2-0. Since then, they have dropped four contests in the league and now sit at 2-4 and tied for 7th in the league.
Caleb Jordan showed a couple of talents on senior night at Starkville Christian School Monday night.
First, Jordan used his voice by singing the national anthem prior to the girls varsity game, then he used his basketball skill to lead the Cougars to a 65-56 win over the Kemper Academy Rams.
Jordan was one of three SCS players with double-doubles. He had 18 points and 10 rebounds.
On an unseasonably warm afternoon the soccer teams of Starkville Academy and Heritage faced off with the Volunteers looking to make it two in a row following a victory over Presbyterian Christian School on Saturday.
Coach Robert Garner and his team got their wish as they defeated the Patriots 2-0 and moved one step closer to the playoffs.

The Mississippi State women's coaching staff have been pushing junior point guard Katia May to improve her play.
Even though there are still some things they'd like to see her do better, May took a step in the right direction against the Ole Miss Rebels on Sunday.
They were at Starkville Christian School before there were Cougars.
The SCS basketball seniors, who take the home floor for the final time tonight against Kemper Academy, have been vital to the progress of the program.

The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets refused to stay down.
After a disappointing loss to New Hope to end the regular season, the Lady Jackets have enjoyed two strong playoff performances, including Saturday's 2-0 home win over Center Hill in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.
It was quite an afternoon for Starkville High School soccer player Taylor Wise on Saturday.
After signing with Hinds Community College earlier in the day, Wise scored a pair of goals to lead the Yellowjackets to a 2-0 victory over Hernando in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.
Starkville Academy soccer coach Robert Gardner was looking for a complete match from his squad.
He saw that on Saturday.
The Volunteers were able to do something they had never done in beating Presbyterian Christian School 2-0 at the Starkville Sportplex soccer field.
Gardner was pleased with the way his players worked together to accomplish the desired result.
It was quite a day of soccer in Starkville on Saturday.
