December 19th
The Mississippi State football team is going to need some wide receivers and defensive backs in 2013.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs got one of each, courtesy of the junior college ranks.
Defensive back Justin Cox and wide receiver Jeremy Chappelle both signed with MSU.
Both had committed to the Bulldogs earlier this month, but made it official on Wednesday.
December 18th
Starkville High’s football team, cheerleaders and band flocked the streets of Starkville on Tuesday for a parade celebrating its recent Class 5A State championship.
Starting in the parking lot of Starkville Daily News, the parade headed along North Jackson, before turning onto Main Street and continuing along its route where it ended upon the steps of the Greensboro Center.
Starkville Academy guard Carnail Minor knows basketball.
Having grown up around the sport, the Volunteer understands the game better than most athletes well beyond his years. That knowledge of the game is just one of the many things that leads Starkville Academy coach Mark Alexander to call Minor a “joy to watch.”
The signs are pointing to Christmas being near.
Sure, it's easy to notice the lights and the trees are going up everywhere and the presents are starting to appear.

The number nine doesn't look the same to Alex Thompson as it did three years ago.
When Thompson began working with the boys basketball team at Starkville Christian School, nine represented the losses for his junior varsity Cougars the first year.
Things have changed since that time.
December 16th
For Mississippi State there are two phases to a bowl practices.
The first phase is getting the younger guys some reps and getting the veterans a break.
Sunday the first phase ended.
The Bulldogs capped off the first phase with a scrimmage inside the Palmeiro Center due to the rain.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs looked to a senior down the stretch when they needed a victory Sunday afternoon.
Darriel Gaynor scored all nine of her points in the second half as MSU won 67-57 in women's basketball action at Humphrey Coliseum.
After being shut out in the first half with only 6 minutes of play, Gaynor stepped up when her team needed scoring.
December 15th
The first season of playing football for most redshirt freshman is about getting their feet under them and learning the ins-and-outs of the program.
For Mississippi State redshirt freshman linebacker Benardrick McKinney, that is not the case.
They are not related or part of a law firm, but the duo of Williams and Williams are showing their value in the post for the Mississippi State women's basketball team.
Sherise Williams and Carnecia Williams have provided a nice compliment of play with Martha Alwal and have been two of the surprises for the Bulldogs through nine games.
Starkville Academy and Hillcrest tipped off Saturday for a thriller of a ballgame that came down to the final second of overtime before concluding with a 42-41 Cougar victory.
