November 26th
The light rain that fell in the first half of Monday's soccer opener for the Starkville Academy Volunteers wasn't enough to damper their spirits.
After a 4-0 victory over the HIllcrest Christian School Cougars at the Starkville Sportsplex, the Vols were feeling pretty good about themselves.
Drew Pellum had a hat trick with one goal in the first half and two more in the second for SA.
November 24th
OXFORD – It had to happen sometime.
When Dan Mullen took over as coach of the Mississippi State football program, beating Ole Miss was on the top of his list.
Saturday night that didn't happen.
The Rebels (6-6, 3-5) beat the No. 25 (Associated Press) Bulldogs (8-4, 4-4) 41-24 in the Egg Bowl in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
OXFORD – Mississippi State may have lost the game, but for one Bulldog senior, the Egg Bowl was a record-breaking performance.
OXFORD – The 109th Egg Bowl did not disappoint.
It also sported the longest run in series history.
After Ole Miss took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Mississippi State sophomore wide receiver Jameon Lewis took the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a score.
November 23rd
It seems that history is repeating itself.
Last year the Starkville High School football team lost to West Point in the regular season, but beat them in the playoffs on route to Jackson.
SHS lost to West Point 47-22 on Sept. 7.
The Yellowjackets followed history and beat the Green Wave 29-28 in an overtime thriller to win the Class 5A North State title at Yellowjacket Stadium.
The Starkville Yellowjackets have been through some tough times on the road back to Jackson.
Not long after losing the Class 5A State championship to Picayune last December, the SHS program was hit with the tragedy of Devin Mitchell's death.
EUPORA – It was a thrilling way to win a North State championship for the Eupora Eagles.
In a back and forth game, the Eagles defeated the Bruce Trojans 31-28 to claim the Class 2A North Half title and advanced to the State championship game.
November 22nd
There won't be any strangers tonight when it comes to the Starkville Yellowjackets and West Point Green Wave meeting on the football field once again.
For the second time this season and fourth time in two seasons, the two rivals play each other.
EUPORA – The Eupora Eagles can move one step closer to their goal of a state championship tonight as the face off with the Bruce Trojans for the Class 2A North State championship.
Kickoff at Eupora High School is set for 7 p.m., and is sure to be a toughly-fought game on both sides.
November 21st
Mississippi State has found a good mix with its wide receivers this season.
Junior tailback LaDarius Perkins has proven that he can give junior quarterback Tyler Russell a good target in the passing game.
"He knows if he gets matched up on a linebacker, not to many linebackers in the SEC can cover him," Russell said. "I trust him to go up and make a play for me."
