The Starkville Academy Volunteers may have been an underdog in Friday night's matchup with Jackson Prep.
Starkville Academy’s head coach Jeff Terrill talked to his team before the game about how the Volunteers wanted to play the game.
“We need to play our football,” Terrill said. “We need to play hard, fundamental football.”

It doesn't surprise Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen when Chad Bumphis, Chris Smith, Cameron Lawrence, Darius Slay or Johnthan Banks make their presence felt on the field.

The Jackson Prep Patriots are coming in on a roll and a little history.
Last week, the Patriots (5-0, 1-0) beat Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A opponent Pearl 9-0. Prep head coach Ricky Black got his 300th win.
The Patriots look to make it 301 for Black this week as they travel to Starkville Academy (3-2, 1-0) for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
