December 7th
The Mississippi State football team has had quite a layoff since the last time it saw the gridiron.
That all changed on Friday.
The Bulldogs had their first bowl practice in preparation for the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl. MSU faces Northwestern on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 in Jacksonville. ESPN2 will televise the 11 a.m. kickoff.
The Starkville Yellowjackets remains on a hot streak on a out of the norm warm night in December.
The Jackets defeated the Amory Panthers 4-1 at home.
The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets controlled the majority of their soccer match against the Amory Lady Panthers Friday night, but a late goal by the visitors made the difference in a 1-0 loss.
After Friday’s loss the Lady Yellowjackets fell to 3-4-3 overall, while Amory moved its overall record to 8-1-0.
GALLMAN – The Starkville Academy Volunteers won their third-straight game and the fourth in the last five outings by defeating Copiah Academy 61-57.
After falling behind 17-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Vols wrestled the lead away from the home team by outscoring their hosts 18-15 in the second quarter and 17-8 in the third.
The Mississippi State women's basketball team has battled hard, but still been on the wrong side of a couple of games this season.
On Friday night, MSU found a way to correct.
The Bulldogs held on to to beat the Florida Atlantic Owls 59-58 in Humphrey Coliseum.
December 6th
Youth basketball once again becomes the focus for Starkville Parks and Recreation Department in mid January.
This program is known as Starkville Area Youth or SAY, which dates back to previous days before the Parks and Recreation department took over the program.
ACKERMAN – The East Webster basketball teams got a jump on the holiday tournament slate Thursday.
On Thursday, the East Webster squads traveled to the Ackerman Tournament. In their first game of the tournament, the Lady Wolverines tipped off against the Lady Warriors of Nanih Waiya, and East Webster won a 49-27 decision.
After being on the road the last couple of weeks, Starkville High’s bowling Yellowjackets returned home to Bulldog Lanes to face the Olive Branch Conquistadors.
December 5th
The Starkville Yellowjackets were not going to accept where the football season was headed.
After beginning the year with a 1-3 record, the Jackets were not going to look back.
Starkville's focus was moving forward and concentrating on the Class 5A, Region 2 schedule.
December 4th
Mississippi State head basketball coach Rick Ray has come to the conclusion that his team is going to have to win some "ugly basketball games."
The Bulldogs did exactly that Tuesday night.
MSU beat the University of Texas-San Antonio 53-42 inside Humphrey Coliseum.
